About the Role

Position Summary:

The Payroll Intern provides essential operational support to the Payroll and Compliance team by assisting with labor compliance activities, certified payroll reporting, and documentation management. This role supports Public Works projects across multiple states and contributes to maintaining accurate prevailing wage records and compliance reporting.

Working closely with Payroll and Compliance professionals, the Intern will gain hands-on exposure to certified payroll processes, state-specific labor regulations, and internal reporting procedures. This position requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

This is an opportunity for a motivated student or recent graduate to develop practical experience in payroll operations and labor compliance within a growing organization.

What You’ll Do

  • Track and maintain certified payroll requirements for Public Works projects across multiple states
  • Organize, file, and update weekly and monthly compliance documentation within shared systems
  • Distribute certified payroll reports and required compliance documentation to customers
  • Research and verify prevailing wage requirements based on project date, county, and job classification
  • Assist with onboarding activities, including setting up employees in timekeeping systems and providing login instructions
  • Generate and submit DAS-140 and DAS-142 forms for California Public Works projects
  • Support responses to government agency document requests and audit inquiries
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance status and follow up on missing documentation
  • Provide administrative support for payroll processing and compliance operations
  • Support additional payroll and compliance initiatives as assigned

 

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Current student or recent graduate pursuing a degree in Payroll, Human Resources or a related field
  • Availability to work part-time during standard business hours (schedule may be adjusted based on academic commitments)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior coursework or internship experience related to payroll
  • Exposure to certified payroll or prevailing wage requirements
  • Familiarity with systems such as LCP Tracker, DIR, or Points North
