About the Role

Senior Business Development Manager – Enterprise | Auckland, NZ | $115K–$130K Base + $230K–$260K OTE

Riverside Company just purchased this business. Now they need someone to drive Auckland enterprise sales and takeover where the founder has left off.

Workbench International has been quietly profitable for 30 years — founder-led, word-of-mouth, zero marketing engine. Real product-market fit in a market everyone assumes is too slow to disrupt.

Three to four months ago, Riverside Company — a North American private equity firm — took it over. A new CEO starts October 1. A CRO is being hired in parallel. The mandate is simple: take this from moderate, organic growth to a genuine high-growth trajectory.

This is your opportunity to come in after the product-market fit has already been established, key clients are already engaged, and now the fuel is getting poured on the fire.

Why This Role?

  • $115K–$130K base (NZD), with the bulk of variable comp tied to new business — plus a small component on upsell and retention across Tier 1 accounts

  • Uncapped commission on enterprise deals averaging ~$120K ACV

  • You become the senior sales leader in the Auckland market — not one of several BDMs

  • Backed by one of the largest PE firms globally — real budget, real mandate, not just talk

  • First-mover advantage: you shape how enterprise sales gets done

  • Genuine institutional handover from a founder who built real trust with these customers over three decades

  • You're not doing implementation — onboarding sits entirely with the consulting team

What You'll Actually Do

  • Own the full enterprise sales cycle: demo, quote, contract, close

  • Take over the founder's demo and closing load, fast — this is a live handover, not a shadow period

  • Manage and grow a portfolio of Tier 1 enterprise accounts (~10–15% of your time on upsell and retention)

  • Self-source pipeline, including targeted outbound into identified accounts

  • Represent Workbench at industry construction events as the face of the business

  • Navigate low-tech-maturity buyers — often owner-operators — where trust matters more than a slick pitch

  • Work through genuine change-management conversations, not just product demos

Who This Suits
You don't need a construction background. What matters is whether you can build your own pipeline without a mature sales org propping you up.

  • You've sold enterprise SaaS full-cycle — quote to close, contract negotiation, clean handover

  • You're a genuine self-starter — no marketing engine, no playbook, you build both as you go

  • You understand that in construction, relationships beat product features every time

  • You're comfortable being patient through a founder transition — absorbing institutional knowledge, tolerating early process gaps

  • You're motivated by the PE growth story, not just the base number

Construction, industrial or manufacturing sales experience helps. It's not essential. Understanding how low-digital-maturity buyers actually make decisions matters more.

Why This Opportunity Is Different
Most "join us during a transition" roles are a mess — inherited chaos with none of the upside. This isn't that. The founder isn't difficult, he's stepping out cleanly, and Riverside Company has a real, funded plan for what comes next.

You're not just taking a job. You're taking the leadership position in a market during the exact window when a PE-backed business decides whether it scales or stalls. Do well here, and this is a story that elevates your CV.
