Manager Cargo Freighter Operations

We are seeking an experienced aviation professional to join our Cargo Operations team as Manager Cargo Freighter Operations. This role provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Qatar Airways Cargo's global freighter operations, ensuring excellence in cargo handling, load control, special loads management, operational performance, and compliance across the network.

About the role

As Manager Cargo Freighter Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing worldwide freighter operations, including Doha Hub and all cargo outstations. You will drive operational excellence through the development and implementation of strategies, policies, procedures, and performance standards that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective cargo operations.
The role will lead key operational areas including Load Master Officers, Freighter Centralized Load Control, Special Loads, On-Time Performance (OTP), Cargo iQ analytics, charter operations, and continuous process improvement initiatives.

Some of the tasks include the following:

Strategic

• Develop and implement freighter operations strategies that enhance operational performance while reducing costs across the network.

• Drive the evolution of cargo operations through simplification, automation, digitization, and process optimization initiatives.

• Establish operational policies, procedures, and governance frameworks for freighter operations across the global network.

• Collaborate with Cargo Network Operations and other stakeholders to introduce operational improvements following appropriate risk assessment and mitigation processes.

• Identify opportunities for cross-training, workforce optimization, and automation to improve operational efficiency and reduce manpower dependency.

• Analyze performance data and Cargo iQ metrics to implement service quality improvements and operational enhancements.

• Ensure all freighter operational procedures comply with regulatory, safety, security, and company requirements.

Operational

• Manage all cargo freighter operations activities at Doha Hub and across the network.

• Lead and manage the Flying Load Master Officers team.

• Oversee Freighter Centralized Load Control activities and drive automation initiatives across the weight and balance supply chain.

• Ensure effective operational planning and execution for freighter charter operations, including safety, security, ULD approvals, and ground support requirements.

• Manage the Special Loads team and ensure accurate handling instructions are provided for all specialized cargo.

• Monitor freighter On-Time Performance (OTP) and drive continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with Network Operations, Regional Operations, and IOC Cargo.

• Establish, implement, and monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with Ground Handling Agents across the network.

• Ensure inspections are conducted following loading activities to verify cargo loading and securing compliance.

• Identify and mitigate operational risks to minimize discrepancies, cargo claims, penalties, and delays.

• Ensure adherence to all aviation safety, security, and regulatory standards.

• Perform other department duties related to the position as directed by the Head of Department.

About you

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification in Aviation, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field.

• Minimum 8+ years' experience within the aviation industry with significant operational exposure.

• Experience in cargo freighter operations, airline ground operations, logistics, cargo handling, and load control functions.

• Strong knowledge of air cargo operations, freighter operations, aircraft load planning, operational performance management, and air cargo industry standards.

• Operational knowledge of B777F and B747F freighter aircraft preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to lead operational teams, develop talent, delegate responsibilities, and drive performance improvements.

• Strong communication, presentation, stakeholder management, analytical, audit, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).

• Knowledge of air cargo safety and security regulations and Cargo iQ performance management standards.
