Description
Position Summary
The Mechanical Greenskeeper supports the safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of the Lake Almanor Country Club golf course. This hands-on position combines golf course maintenance duties with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of turf equipment, utility vehicles, small engines, and related machinery.
The ideal candidate is mechanically skilled, dependable, safety-conscious, and willing to assist with all aspects of golf course maintenance. This position requires early-morning, weekend, and holiday availability during the golf season.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Repair
- Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair golf course maintenance equipment, including mowers, tractors, utility vehicles, aerators, sprayers, blowers, chainsaws, and other small-engine equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, belt adjustment, battery service, tire repair, and fluid checks.
- Inspect and maintain hydraulic, electrical, fuel, cooling, braking, and mechanical systems.
- Sharpen, grind, adjust, and maintain mower reels, bedknives, rotary blades, and other cutting equipment.
- Maintain accurate equipment service, repair, inspection, and parts records.
- Monitor equipment hours and establish preventive-maintenance schedules in coordination with the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Identify needed parts, supplies, and repairs and obtain approval before placing orders or arranging outside service.
- Maintain an organized inventory of commonly used parts, fluids, tools, and supplies.
- Keep the maintenance shop, fuel-storage areas, tools, and workspaces clean, secure, and compliant with applicable safety requirements.
- Remove unsafe equipment from service and promptly notify the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Assist with winterization, seasonal start-up, and storage of golf course equipment.
Golf Course Maintenance
- Operate greens, tees, fairway, rough, and rotary mowers.
- Mow, roll, aerate, top-dress, seed, fertilize, and water turf areas as assigned.
- Change cups, move tee markers, maintain bunkers, and prepare the golf course for daily play and special events.
- Assist with irrigation-system inspections, adjustments, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Perform landscaping duties, including trimming, pruning, planting, weed removal, debris removal, and general grounds maintenance.
- Assist with drainage, erosion-control, tree, cart-path, and course-improvement projects.
- Respond to weather-related conditions, including frost, wind, rain, snow, fallen trees, and irrigation emergencies.
- Safely load, transport, and operate equipment throughout the golf course and LACC property.
- Perform other golf course, grounds, and facility-maintenance duties as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all LACC safety policies and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Operate machinery only after receiving appropriate training and authorization.
- Use required personal protective equipment.
- Follow established procedures for hazardous materials, fuel, batteries, oils, chemicals, and waste disposal.
- Immediately report injuries, spills, equipment damage, unsafe conditions, and workplace hazards.
- Follow lockout/tagout and other applicable equipment-safety procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of equipment manuals, safety instructions, and manufacturer recommendations.
