Job Description

Help shape the next era of underground infrastructure in Australia and New Zealand

Some careers are built by delivering great projects. Others are defined by creating a lasting industry legacy.

AECOM is seeking an exceptional tunnelling leader to help shape the future of our ANZ Tunnelling Practice and lead some of the most complex underground infrastructure opportunities across Australia, New Zealand and globally.

This is not a role for someone looking to maintain the status quo.

This is an opportunity to influence major transport programs, unlock energy transition projects, strengthen client relationships across the region and build a high-performing tunnelling team capable of supporting the next decade of growth.

If you are recognised within the tunnelling industry as a trusted advisor, technical authority and relationship builder, we'd like to talk.

Why this role matters

Australia and New Zealand are entering a period of unprecedented investment in underground infrastructure.

From metro systems and utility tunnels to pumped hydro, water security projects and next-generation energy infrastructure, the tunnelling sector is evolving rapidly.

You'll become part of our dynamic Water business which boasts around 600 experts across Australia and New Zealand and 6000 globally. Collaborate with multidisciplinary leaders in civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineering to deliver a variety of captivating projects, from small initiatives to large-scale ventures, all the way from concept to completion. You’ll thrive in an inclusive and forward-thinking environment where your contributions are valued.

AECOM already brings together:

  • A globally recognised tunnelling practice
  • Deep technical expertise across design and construction
  • Long-standing relationships across public and private sector clients
  • A strong pipeline of major opportunities across ANZ and internationally

What we need now is a leader who can bring these strengths together, expand our market presence and help define where we go next.

What you'll do

As ANZ Tunnelling Lead, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AECOM’s tunnelling business across Australia and New Zealand. Working with major clients, industry leaders and high-performing teams, you will drive growth, lead strategic pursuits, provide technical leadership on landmark projects, and help develop the next generation of tunnelling professionals.

Supported by AECOM’s global network, this is a unique opportunity to influence major infrastructure outcomes while building a lasting legacy within one of the industry's leading teams.

Qualifications

What you'll bring

We're less interested in your job title and more interested in your impact.

You'll likely bring:

  • Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or similar related subject.
  • Significant experience across major tunnelling and underground infrastructure projects throughout Australia
  • Expertise in TBM, mined, shaft, trenchless, cavern, hydro or complex underground works
  • Strong relationships across clients, contractors and industry partners
  • A reputation for technical excellence and sound engineering judgement
  • The ability to win work as well as deliver it
  • A passion for developing people and building capability
  • Active involvement in industry organisations and professional networks
  • A leadership style that inspires confidence, trust and collaboration
