Director of Accounting (LHMSH)

Description
The Director of Accounting leads the accounting function and is responsible for accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance across the organization. This role serves as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team by providing financial insights and recommendations to improve financial performance. The Director oversees the accounting team, month-end and year-end close, audit coordination, and financial process improvement.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, and close processes.
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of accounting records and reporting.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
- Coordinate external audits and provide supporting schedules, documentation, and follow-up.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and other financial planning activities.
- Review journal entries, balance sheet schedules, and account reconciliations.
- Monitor compliance with applicable accounting standards, laws, and regulations.
- Partner with leadership on financial analysis, special projects, and process improvements.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
- Coach, teach and mentor.

- All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- Seven to ten years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experience; public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in the health care industry and multi-entity accounting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with month-end close and external audits preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to walk, sit, stand, bend, reach, talk hear, kneel, crouch, stretch, twist, lift, and move about.
- Required vision includes close, vision, distance, peripheral, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to carefully consider all information and make impacting decisions on a regular basis.
- Maintain regular attendance and timeliness as set forth within the work schedule designated by the department supervisor/manager.
- Job requires accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high-stress situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
