About the Role

Description

PEACE Academy Charter works to promote educational and cultural empowerment for all of our students to ensure they are mastering or exceeding in their grade level content areas. Our strong focus on academics and cultural identity supports us in being an inclusive school that is heavily grounded in community. We are seeking a dynamic School Custodian who can contribute to our school community in addition to supporting administrative duties.


This position reports directly to the Operations Associate.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the daily cleanliness and sanitation of the entire school facility, including classrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, restrooms, cafeteria and dining spaces, common areas, staff spaces, storage areas, and other assigned spaces.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, scrub, dust, wipe, and disinfect surfaces according to the school's established cleaning schedule and sanitation expectations.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms throughout the school day and ensure that soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, and other necessary supplies remain stocked.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the building and properly dispose of waste in designated locations.
  • Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, including door handles, railings, tables, desks, water stations, sinks, and other frequently used areas.
  • Complete daily opening, midday, closing, and deep-cleaning responsibilities according to schedules established by the Operations Leader.
  • Conduct regular walkthroughs of the school building to identify cleanliness, safety, facility, or maintenance concerns and immediately address or report concerns requiring additional support.
  • Respond promptly to spills, restroom concerns, accidents, bodily-fluid incidents, and other cleaning needs that occur during the school day.
  • Maintain floors throughout the building, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, spot cleaning, and completing other floor-care responsibilities as needed.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of custodial closets, storage areas, equipment, and cleaning supplies.
  • Monitor janitorial and facility supply levels and communicate supply needs to the Operations Leader before materials are depleted.
  • Ensure all cleaning products, chemicals, tools, and equipment are properly labeled, stored, secured, and maintained in accordance with safety requirements.
  • Keep cleaning chemicals, equipment, tools, and other potentially hazardous materials secured and inaccessible to Geniuses at all times.
  • Support the maintenance of school grounds by keeping entrances, sidewalks, outdoor gathering areas, and other assigned exterior spaces clean and free of trash and debris.
  • Immediately report leaks, plumbing concerns, electrical concerns, HVAC problems, pest concerns, broken furniture, damaged equipment, safety hazards, or other facility issues to the Operations Leader.
  • Complete basic non-specialized maintenance tasks and minor repairs when appropriate and within the employee's training and ability.
  • Assist with the movement and arrangement of tables, chairs, furniture, supplies, equipment, and other materials as needed.
  • Support the setup, breakdown, and cleaning of spaces for school programs, family events, community events, staff meetings, evening events, and weekend events as assigned.
  • Assist with receiving, organizing, moving, and storing school deliveries and supplies when needed.
  • Maintain school spaces so that classrooms, hallways, offices, common areas, storage areas, and exterior spaces are orderly and free of unnecessary clutter.
  • Follow all school health, safety, sanitation, emergency, and facility procedures.
  • Follow proper procedures for handling and cleaning bodily fluids and other potentially hazardous materials, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
  • Immediately communicate any condition that could present a health or safety risk to Geniuses, employees, families, or visitors.
  • Complete assigned cleaning checklists and facility walkthroughs with fidelity and communicate when an assigned responsibility cannot be completed.
  • Demonstrate urgency when responding to facility and cleanliness concerns, particularly those that affect the health, safety, comfort, or learning environment of Geniuses.
  • Help ensure that the school is prepared each morning to welcome Geniuses and families into a clean, organized, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Help ensure that the building is appropriately cleaned, organized, and secured at the conclusion of each school day.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations Team and school leadership to prepare the building for inspections, special events, school breaks, and the beginning and conclusion of the school year.
  • Maintain professional and respectful interactions with Geniuses, families, staff members, vendors, contractors, and community members.
  • Demonstrate trustworthiness and sound judgment when working throughout classrooms, offices, and other areas containing confidential or sensitive materials.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site during assigned school hours and as needed for evening, weekend, emergency, or special-event responsibilities.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Operations Leader, School Director, or Executive Director.


Compensation Information

Part Time 20 - 30 hours per week

Hourly: $13.5/hr


Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Education:

High school diploma/GED required


Experience:

The experience and qualifications preferred for this position include:

Minimum of 1 years experience working with elementary and/or middle school-aged students

Experience with clerical and administrative support

Demonstrated effectiveness in working with diverse groups of students, teachers, and families
