Bishop Gadsden, located on James Island, SC and is a not-for-profit, faith-based retirement community, affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Bishop Gadsden is known as the Southeast's leading life care retirement community. We are located just 10 minutes from downtown Charleston!


Our Bishop Gadsden at Home Department is seeking Companion team members to provide in home support to clients that promotes independence and mobility with an emphasis on emotional, psychological and social well-being. The successful candidate will have compassion for and the desire to work with the elderly.


A Typical Day:

  • Provide personal care for clients, including bathing, showering, shampooing, oral hygiene, skin care, hair care, nail care, dressing, and shaving as needed.
  • Assist clients with nutritional needs including serving, feeding, and providing proper fluid requirements.
  • Assist with proper restorative care including range-of motion exercises, proper positioning, and ambulation.
  • Encourage client independence and optimal level of functioning.
  • Exercise standard precautions of infection control in all client care.
  • Exchange client information with supervisor via communications binder.
  • Launder clients’ personal items as needed.
  • Maintain a pleasant, respectful, and courteous demeanor.


Requirements

What We Need In A Candidate:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • At least 1year experience within long-term care for the elderly required, home care experience is ideal.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Able to stand, stoop, bend, reach, squat, climb, reach above head, carry, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and written
  • Willingness to travel to clients throughout Charleston County
  • Has reliable transportation to and from James Island.
