Location: Kress Food Market, Downtown El Paso
Position Summary
The Kress embodies the culture, spirit, and traditions of downtown El Paso while offering a work environment focused on the overall employee experience. This Server position may support our Cocktail Bar or Kress Diner. The Server is responsible for providing warm, attentive, accurate, and professional service while creating a welcoming guest experience from arrival to departure. This role includes greeting guests, explaining menus, taking and entering orders accurately, coordinating with team members, delivering food and beverages, maintaining clean service areas, handling payments, and supporting hospitality standards throughout each shift.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Service & Hospitality
• Greet guests promptly and create a warm, welcoming, and professional atmosphere
• Provide attentive service that supports the guest experience, hospitality standards, and overall service flow
• Build rapport with guests, anticipate needs, answer questions, and make thoughtful recommendations
• Maintain professionalism, composure, and positive communication throughout each shift
• Thank guests sincerely and help create a reason for them to return
Order Taking, POS & Accuracy
• Take food and beverage orders accurately and enter them into the point-of-sale system promptly
• Confirm guest selections, modifiers, special requests, allergies, cooking preferences, and timing needs when applicable
• Communicate clearly with kitchen, bar, host, support, and management teams to support accurate service
• Repeat orders back when appropriate and review tickets for accuracy before delivery
• Use suggestive-selling techniques appropriately to promote menu items, beverages, specials, and events
Food, Beverage & Table Service
• Serve food and beverages promptly, accurately, and professionally according to service standards
• Deliver items with correct presentation, proper placement, clean glassware, and attention to guest needs
• Monitor tables, refill beverages, clear used items, pre-bus, reset areas, and maintain a clean guest environment
• Support service pacing, ticket timing, table maintenance, and guest satisfaction throughout the visit
• Assist with high-volume service, private events, reservations, walk-in traffic, and changing business needs
Cash Handling & Guest Checkout
• Present checks promptly and professionally
• Process cash and credit card transactions accurately, including split checks, tabs, and change when applicable
• Follow all company cash-handling, payment, and accountability procedures
• Close checks or tabs correctly and return receipts promptly
• Escalate payment issues, guest concerns, or service recovery needs to management when appropriate
Responsible Service, Safety & Teamwork
• Follow responsible alcohol-service standards, verify identification when required, recognize signs of intoxication, and promptly involve management when concerns arise
• Comply with food-safety, sanitation, cleaning, chemical-safety, spill-response, and workplace-safety procedures
• Communicate effectively with coworkers and management to support smooth operations and guest satisfaction
• Assist coworkers with food running, beverage refills, guest support, service recovery, and side work as needed
• Maintain professional appearance, conduct, confidentiality, and calm communication in guest-facing situations
Qualifications
Education, Experience & Certifications
• Previous restaurant, bar, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred
• Working knowledge of guest service standards, table maintenance, menu presentation, point-of-sale systems, cash handling, and service communication preferred
• Basic knowledge of food, beverages, cocktails, beer, wine, zero-proof beverages, and responsible alcohol-service expectations preferred
• Food Handler certification required
• Alcohol-service certification required when applicable by law, regulation, or company policy
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively in English with guests, coworkers, and management
• Ability to read and understand menus, enter orders, operate a computerized register system, calculate change, and settle checks accurately
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organization, time-management, and guest-service skills
• Ability to multitask, maintain composure, and work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and flexible availability for mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends, holidays, private events, and changing business needs
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, stoop, move quickly during service, and lift or carry up to 35 pounds with proper technique or assistance when needed
