Position Summary
The Master Plant Maintenance Technician is a highly skilled, hands-on maintenance professional responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining ready-mix plant equipment. This senior-level position also provides day-to-day technical leadership by directing maintenance and fabrication work, coaching other employees, and promoting safe and effective maintenance practices.
The ideal candidate has advanced mechanical and fabrication experience, takes ownership of equipment reliability, and can independently diagnose and resolve complex equipment issues while helping develop the skills of other team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of plant machinery and equipment.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, including lubrication, adjustments, inspections, and component replacement.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment issues.
- Troubleshoot and replace components such as conveyor belts, idlers, bearings, pulleys, gearboxes, motors, and water pumps.
- Tear down, rebuild, and install plant equipment and mechanical components.
- Fabricate, modify, and rebuild parts as needed.
- Perform structural repairs, hard facing, welding, torch cutting, grinding, and heavy wear-part replacement.
- Assist with the maintenance and repair of mobile equipment.
- Provide technical direction to other fixed-plant maintenance employees and coordinate daily maintenance and fabrication work.
- Coach employees on preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, housekeeping, and safe operating practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and extend equipment life.
- Order parts from approved vendors and maintain appropriate parts and supply inventories.
- Drive a company pickup or repair truck to obtain parts and supplies as needed.
- Complete service logs, lubrication reports, inspection records, and other required maintenance documentation.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and hazard-free work area.
- Follow all OSHA, MSHA, company safety, and environmental requirements.
- Properly execute Lockout/Tagout procedures before performing maintenance or repair work.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least five years of industrial plant maintenance experience, preferably within the ready-mix concrete, aggregate, mining, quarry, or heavy industrial industry.
- Advanced mechanical aptitude and the ability to independently complete most plant maintenance and repair assignments.
- Hands-on welding experience, including stick and flux-core welding.
- Experience using cutting torches, grinders, welding equipment, and a wide variety of hand and power tools.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and related plant equipment.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, and safety procedures.
- Strong troubleshooting, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead work activities and coach employees without requiring direct supervisory authority.
- Strong attention to detail, accountability, and commitment to workplace safety.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
- MSHA certification or willingness to complete required MSHA training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree, accredited apprenticeship, or equivalent technical training.
- Experience in a lead maintenance, lead technician, or senior fabrication role.
- Low-voltage electrical troubleshooting and industrial controls experience.
- Experience maintaining or repairing mobile equipment.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Compensation
The anticipated base pay for this position is $30.00–$40.00 per hour. Actual compensation will be based on the candidate’s experience, technical capabilities, certifications, job-related skills, and the scope of responsibilities assigned.
