We have grown into a non-profit organization that provides innovative services to over 1,000 children, youth and adults with developmental disabilities and their families in Metro Vancouver. At BACI, we provide a wide range of training, development, social and recreational opportunities. Through our BEST employment services and collaborations with local businesses, civic employment initiatives and the Burnaby Board of Trade, we support the economic inclusion of people with disabilities. With our 4 integrated child care centres and Infant Development Program, we support over 400 children of all abilities in Burnaby to learn and play together, and develop to their full potential. Our Youth Program partners with Burnaby community centres and libraries to promote inclusion – finding and creating opportunities for people of all abilities to meet new people, connect, and be more active in their community. BACI continues to seek out opportunities to increase social awareness and effect change in the way individuals of all abilities are included in our society.
About the Role

The Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion (BACI) is a community living organization that supports people with developmental disabilities across the life span to live a ‘good life.’ Our Community Inclusion (Day Program) is looking for a Community Support Worker to work with people to pursue activities in the community based on individual interests, gifts, and defined goals. This role supports people to become active members of the community discovering and engaging with places of belonging. 

POSITION: Regular Part-Time Community Support Worker

LOCATION: Richmond/Steveston - Community Based

SALARY: $27.53/hour 

HOURS: 22.5 hours/week 

SCHEDULE: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00am - 3:30pm 

Responsibilities: 

  • Support people in small group settings. 
  • Ensuring that individuals are connected to friends and family. 
  • Providing individuals with the opportunity to make meaningful choices. 
  • Encouraging and recognizing individuals' contributions. 
  • Ensuring that individuals are safe and to promote their health and well-being. 
  • Assist individuals to gain knowledge and experiences to enhance their independence and/or ability to participate in their community. 

Qualifications: 

  • The ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently is essential. 
  • Experience and specialized training related to autism, medical needs and/or challenging behaviours is an asset. 
  • Knowledge and ability to use alternative communication systems would be an asset. 
  • Knowledge of principles of Person-Centered Thinking and Planning preferred 
  • Working knowledge of computers/mobile apps is necessary.    
  • A valid unrestricted BC Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
  • This position requires TB screen/self-assessment, Vaccination/Immunization status disclosure.
