General English & Volunteer Coordinator

Position Summary
The General English & Volunteer Coordinator oversees the General English Language program and volunteer coordination efforts to engage supporters in NSC programs. This position will coordinate the recruitment, registration, and placement of students for the General English Language program, as well as supervise classes and volunteer teachers. The position will also oversee recruitment and onboarding of volunteers, and engagement of volunteers and donors to support client and agency-wide events.
The General English & Volunteer Coordinator has internal contacts with the entire NSC staff and external contact with partners, stakeholders, and the general community. This position has access to sensitive NSC information and is expected to handle such information with integrity and professionalism. This position has regular contact with members of the community and is expected to represent NSC in a professional manner. This position requires in-person evening work (Mondays and Wednesdays) on-site when classes are in session. This is a keyholder position: you will be the last person on site and lock up at the end of the day.
The General English & Volunteer Coordinator will report to the Senior Manager of Education.
Essential Functions
- Promote General English classes and recruit new and returning students through community outreach and internal referrals.
- Recruit, onboard, and supervise volunteer instructors, coordinate classroom support, and conduct periodic class observations.
- Manage student registration, collect payments, administer placement assessments, and assign students to appropriate class levels.
- Coordinate class schedules, curriculum, and ongoing communication with students and volunteer instructors throughout each session.
- Maintain accurate student, class, payment, volunteer, and attendance records in Apricot, ensuring timely updates each session.
- Build and strengthen partnerships with community organizations, universities, and corporations to recruit volunteers and solicit support for NSC.
- Manage volunteer and supporter engagement by promoting opportunities, maintaining regular communication, and fostering long-term involvement with NSC.
- Collaborate across departments to assess volunteer needs and align recruitment efforts with organizational priorities.
- Recruit, screen, and place volunteers and supporters in appropriate opportunities using Bloomerang and Apricot, ensuring all required documentation and background checks are completed.
- Support the planning and execution of client engagement and agency events.
- Contribute to grant writing and proposal development as needed.
Non-Essential Functions
- Attend relevant workshops or join professional groups as necessary to maintain professional knowledge and visibility.
- Adheres to NSC’s security guidelines and ensures the appropriate handling of sensitive information.
- Facilitate and/or attend relevant staff meetings to promote communication and execution of goals.
- Completes special projects specific to the function of the department or as needed for the department as directed by Supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of NSC’s mission, vision, values, programs and services, and business plan.
- Knowledge of legal and political issues, and community resources and benefits that impact and/or benefit the targeted client needs.
- Ability to effectively use standard office equipment.
- Possesses strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, external business partners, and the community.
- Ability to operate a computer and use a variety of common software programs including Microsoft Office, ZOOM, spreadsheets, and customized databases.
- Adheres to all NSC and departmental policies and procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and can effectively communicate with individuals and groups.
- Ability to work in a team structure, demonstrating ability to collaborate and contribute to the team’s work.
Experience, Education, and Licensure
Minimum Experience: 2+ years experience working with English as a Second Language or education programs and working with volunteers preferred.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
Licensure: Valid drivers’ license with access to reliable transportation or eligible for shared auto program is highly recommended but not required.

- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Although work is primarily indoors, you will be required to travel outside to client and community locations.
- Travel in and around NSC’s service delivery area to support delivery of resettlement services to clients.
- Position may require occasional trips to attend conferences seminars, and meetings.
- Certain visits or work related appointments might be scheduled outside of traditional work hours as necessary.
