Our company is seeking a Coater Operator who is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring commercial coating and finishing equipment used in the Production/Finishing department. This position ensures coating applications meet customer specifications and production standards while maintaining equipment performance, product quality, and a safe work environment. The Coater Operator works closely with Pressroom, Bindery, Quality, and Maintenance personnel to maintain efficient production and minimize downtime.
JOB DUTIES
- Follow all required safety procedures and perform all work in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees.
- Set up and operate coating equipment according to job specifications, production requirements, and established procedures.
- Review job tickets, work orders, samples, and specifications to ensure proper setup and coating application.
- Load and prepare paper, printed materials, coating solutions, and other required materials for production.
- Adjust machine settings, coating coverage, speed, temperature, pressure, and other operating parameters as required to achieve the desired finish and product quality.
- Monitor equipment throughout production and make adjustments as needed to maintain consistent coating application and production efficiency.
- Inspect finished product frequently to ensure it meets customer specifications and established quality standards.
- Identify coating defects, registration issues, streaking, uneven coverage, drying problems, or other quality concerns and make appropriate machine adjustments.
- Troubleshoot routine machine and coating-related issues and notify Maintenance or management when additional assistance is required.
- Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and operator-level maintenance to keep assigned equipment operating efficiently.
- Maintain accurate production, quality, and downtime records as required.
- Follow all documented processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and quality requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and assist with general housekeeping throughout the department.
- Work effectively with other production employees to meet daily production, quality, and delivery requirements.
- Handle paper, finished product, coatings, and other materials safely and efficiently.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience operating coating, finishing, printing, or related production equipment preferred.
- Experience in a commercial printing or direct mail production environment preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to make machine adjustments and troubleshoot routine operating issues.
- Ability to read and understand job tickets, production specifications, and written procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing consistent, high-quality work.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced production environment.
- High energy level with an interest in hands-on manufacturing and equipment operation.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, production standards, and established work instructions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. consistently.
- Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Physical Requirements: The Coater Operator I must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and finished product weighing up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis. The position requires the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods throughout the work shift, as well as frequently bend, stoop, reach, stretch, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements while operating and servicing equipment. The operator must have the ability to visually inspect printed and coated materials for quality, consistency, and defects and safely maneuver around operating production equipment. The position requires working in a fast-paced production environment with extended periods of standing and physical activity.
