POSITION PURPOSE 

? Provides pharmacy services to patients/medical providers. Dispense prescriptions of medications to patients prescribed by medical providers and advise patients and health providers on the selection, dosage, interaction, and side effects of medications. Lead and supervisor the pharmacy team on the day-to-day operation to achieve department goals. 

  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Provide leadership and supervision to pharmacy staff.
  • Assist the PIC for hiring decision, training, assigning and directing work, and enforcing workplace policies
  • Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredients, and to evaluate their suitability. Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper storage.
  • Maintain proper and accurate records such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for dispensing of narcotics and controlled drugs.
  • Plans, implements, and maintains procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals according to policy and legal requirements to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
  • Provides specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, and high blood pressure. Offers health promotion and prevention activities by, for example, training people to use devices such as blood pressure and diabetes monitors. Advises customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment, and health care supplies.
  • Resolves compliance and regulatory discrepancies
  • Resolves customer complaints in a prompt and confident manner
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules,      and regulations.
  • Ensure the maintenance of financial control through conservative use of inventories and supplies (prevent loss and deterioration). Monitor inventory control, inventory turns and operation efficiency. 
  • Maintain complete adherence to all HIPAA regulations and uphold strict patient confidentiality
  • Consult regularly with the PIC for the purpose of expediting the processing of prescriptions
  • Report any practitioner or employee in violation of controlled substance, abuse of drugs, or theft.      
  • Perform other duties, as required, to support the UPFH Departments 

  

ANCILLARY JOB FUNCTIONS 

? Notify the state board of pharmacy immediately with individual leaving employment

? Notify DOPL of any changes to home address within ten (10) days of changes. 

? Maintain the required continuing education to stay abreast of pharmacy and licensing requirements

? Handle PIC responsibilities during absences. 

Other duties as assigned. 

Requirements

  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

? Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy or Pharm D is required. 

? Valid and current pharmacist license in Utah and in good standing with Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL)

? 2-5 years related experience working in a pharmacy with supervisory responsibilities.

? Requires comprehensive knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical procedures. 

? Preferred, but not required: 

? Doctorate in Pharmacy.

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES 

? Knowledge of DEA, FDA, and state and federal laws, rules, and regulations surrounding the pharmacy practice, and patient safety.

? Ability to build interpersonal relationships and deliver excellent customer service to internal and external customers. 

? Ability to work independently and as a highly functioning team member.

? Ability to think critically, analytical problem solving and collection of information, and research data.

? Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

? Ability to provide leadership, guidance, and promote teamwork and excellent customer service in highly diversity setting.  

? Ability to perform math calculations

? Ability to communicate, read, and write in Spanish. 

  

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ABILITIES 

? Must be able to sit, stand, talk, and hear for extended periods of time.

? Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.

? Must have consistent attendance/punctuality and ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent. 

? General office environment conditions, with moderate noise levels.
