About the Role
Description
The Machinist A, second shift, responsibilities include the setup and operation of one or more of the following manual machine types: lathes, mills, grinders, drills, hones, hobs, shapers, bevel gear generators and other machines/equipment as assigned. Performs quality inspections of their work and make any required adjustments per general manufacturing practices and company policies/procedures. Requires only minimal supervision to meet productivity, quality and safety goals.
- With minimal supervision, setup and operate assigned equipment
- Assist in the training of operators in the safe use and operation of manufacturing equipment
- Participates in continuous improvement activities as needed
- Proactive and positively interacts with coworkers to provide assistance, answer questions and solve problems when required
- Performs first piece sample verification of work done by others
- Interpret and offer suggestions of improvement to new and existing processes
- Makes necessary adjustments to equipment/tooling to attain required dimensions and finishes
- Maintain correct time reporting and accurate entries on manufacturing and inspection records
- Follow TPM requirements as required and maintains overall good housekeeping practices
- Complies with company quality and safety requirements
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 4 years related experience
Minimum Competencies
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Strong utilization of basic mathematics and geometry
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints/drawings.
- Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Possess excellent communications skills and works well in a team environment
- Experience with setting up and operating several machines
- Knowledge of a wide variety of inspection equipment and techniques
Preferred Qualifications:
- Formal training such as related college course work, vocation training, certificate programs or apprenticeship training strongly preferred
