Job Summary
The Facilities & Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the efficient, safe, and smooth operation of the organization's physical facilities and equipment. This hands-on position combines facility management, preventative maintenance, refrigeration system maintenance, contractor coordination, project management, and general building repairs.
The ideal candidate will be a skilled maintenance professional with experience in commercial refrigeration, building systems, handyman services, and contractor management. This role is responsible for coordinating facility maintenance projects, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and supporting multiple company locations to maintain a safe, clean, and functional environment.
The Facilities & Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Director of Warehouse & Facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures equipment is in proper working order and available for use.
- Maintains physical space, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment.
- Receives, manages, and processes work order requests; ensures problems are resolved quickly with accurate and timely feedback.
- Acts as a liaison between employees, management, vendors, and outside contractors to resolve specialized maintenance and facility issues while ensuring quality service delivery and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborates with security personnel to monitor and enhance facility security, including access control, surveillance systems, and emergency response procedures.
- Drafts and implements preventive maintenance schedules for buildings, equipment, refrigeration systems, and facility infrastructure.
- Assists in developing and managing facility budgets, including forecasting expenses, tracking expenditures, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensures safety standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies are followed throughout all facilities.
- Participates in emergency preparedness planning and safety committee initiatives.
- Provides administrative support as needed, including maintaining facility records, preparing reports, and coordinating meetings with contractors and facility staff.
- Maintains inventory of maintenance supplies, equipment, and replacement parts; orders materials as needed.
- Supports sustainability initiatives through energy conservation, waste reduction, and environmentally responsible facility practices.
- Performs and coordinates maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of commercial refrigeration equipment and systems to ensure operational reliability and food safety compliance.
- Performs and coordinates general building repairs, remodeling projects, and preventative maintenance activities, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, drywall, painting, and other facility systems.
- Plans, coordinates, and oversees facility maintenance, renovation, and improvement projects, ensuring completion on time, within budget, and in compliance with company standards and applicable regulations.
- Coordinates multiple trades and vendors to complete facility improvement and maintenance projects efficiently.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and contractors.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including facility management software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools used to create reports, logs, and project documentation.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven experience in facilities management or a related field, with a strong understanding of facility operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, building codes, and industry best practices.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting commercial refrigeration systems.
- EPA Section 608 Certification required.
- HVAC maintenance and repair experience preferred.
- General contractor or construction management experience required, including coordinating multiple trades and managing facility improvement projects.
- Strong handyman skills with experience in carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical repairs, drywall repair, and general building maintenance required.
- Project management experience preferred, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, vendor coordination, and oversight of facility maintenance and improvement projects.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and willingness to respond to facility-related emergencies outside regular business hours when necessary.
Education & Experience
- Minimum of two years of related facilities, maintenance, refrigeration, construction, or building systems experience required.
- Commercial refrigeration experience required.
- EPA Section 608 Certification required.
- General contractor, construction management, or comparable project coordination experience required.
- Demonstrated handyman experience performing a wide variety of building maintenance and repair tasks required.
- HVAC experience preferred.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Experience managing facility renovation, maintenance, capital improvement, or construction projects preferred.

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout facilities.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to bend, lift, stretch, climb, and crawl to maintain equipment and buildings.
- Must be able to perform work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets company insurance requirements.
