Mechanical Assembler (Contract)


Primary Location: Fredericksburg, VA

Clearance: None Required – U.S. Citizenship required due to defense and export-controlled program requirements

Ability to work remotely: No – On-site


Job Summary

The Mechanical Assembler will support a high-volume unmanned aircraft system (UAS) production program. This position is responsible for assembling structural components, frames, motors, mounting hardware, and related mechanical subassemblies in accordance with controlled work instructions and quality requirements. This is a full-time contract position expected to last approximately 2–3 months, with potential conversion to full-time employment based on performance and business needs.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Assemble UAS structural and mechanical components using documented work instructions, drawings, and visual aids.
  • Drill prepared components and install threaded inserts.
  • Apply controlled quantities of epoxy, threadlocker, and other assembly materials.
  • Assemble frames, arms, vibration mounts, dampers, standoffs, and related hardware.
  • Install motors, electronic speed controllers, wiring harnesses, and panel-mount connectors.
  • Use manual and powered screwdrivers, torque-controlled tools, drills, cutters, and other production equipment.
  • Verify component orientation, fastener selection, fit, alignment, and workmanship.
  • Perform in-process inspections and document completed operations on production travelers.
  • Maintain part traceability and segregate nonconforming material.
  • Identify damaged, missing, or incorrect components and notify production leadership.
  • Maintain an organized workstation and follow established safety, quality, and material-handling procedures.
  • Support line balancing, cross-training, and other assembly operations as production needs require.


Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. citizen (required due to defense and export-controlled program requirements).
  • Mechanical aptitude and proficiency using common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to follow detailed written work instructions and repeat processes consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to recognize incorrect component orientation, damaged hardware, and assembly defects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment.
  • Ability to remain on task while performing repetitive precision work.
  • Basic computer skills for production records and work-order completion.
  • Preferred: Previous mechanical, electromechanical, aerospace, automotive, electronics, or manufacturing assembly experience.
  • Preferred: Experience with torque-controlled assembly, threaded inserts, adhesives, threadlocker, and small fasteners.
  • Preferred: Experience assembling drones, robotics, electronic equipment, or other unmanned systems.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with production travelers, traceability requirements, and controlled work instructions.
  • Preferred: Experience working in an ISO 9001, AS9100, defense, or similarly controlled manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive precision assembly tasks in a production environment.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, and to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and close visual focus.
  • Ability to lift and move parts, tools, and materials up to approximately 25–35 lbs as needed.
  • Work is performed on-site in a manufacturing/production facility.

Travel

  • Minimal to no travel required for this position.
