About the Role

Frenchman's Reserve Country Club is a premier Club in Palm Beach Gardens seeking an experienced Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our team


The Second Assistant Golf Course Superintendent supports the Golf Course Superintendent and First Assistant Superintendent in the daily management, maintenance, and agronomic care of the golf course, practice facilities, grounds, and related property. This position is responsible for helping maintain exceptional playing conditions while developing strong skills in turfgrass management, irrigation, equipment operation, staff supervision, and golf course agronomy.

The ideal candidate is motivated to advance within the golf course management profession, has a strong work ethic, pays close attention to detail, and takes pride in providing excellent playing conditions and presentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and First Assistant Superintendent with daily golf course maintenance operations.
  • Supervise and direct maintenance staff during assigned shifts and projects.
  • Assist with daily scheduling, crew assignments, and prioritization of maintenance activities.
  • Operate and maintain turfgrass equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with mowing, trimming, edging, aeration, topdressing, fertilization, pesticide applications, and other cultural practices.
  • Assist with the management and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and practice areas.
  • Monitor turfgrass health and identify issues involving pests, disease, irrigation, nutrition, drainage, and environmental stress.
  • Assist with fertilizer and pesticide applications in accordance with product labels, local regulations, and club policies.
  • Support irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance.
  • Assist with water management and daily monitoring of irrigation systems.
  • Help maintain accurate records of chemical applications, fertilizer applications, irrigation activities, weather conditions, and maintenance practices.
  • Assist with golf course setup, including tee markers, cups, hole locations, mowing patterns, and special event preparation.
  • Assist with tournament and outing preparation to ensure the golf course is presented at the highest possible standard.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe maintenance facilities, equipment areas, and workspaces.
  • Communicate effectively with the Superintendent, management, golf professional staff, and other departments.
  • Train and mentor seasonal and entry-level employees in proper maintenance procedures and safety practices.
  • Enforce department safety policies and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Assist with inventory management and maintain adequate supplies of fertilizers, chemicals, fuel, parts, and other maintenance materials.
  • Participate in special projects, renovations, drainage work, landscaping, tree work, and other property improvements as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Perform clean shop duties such as keeping equipment clean, sweep and/or mop shop floors, clean offices, lunchrooms, bathrooms and the like as needed

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of golf course maintenance experience preferred.
  • Associate degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of golf course turfgrass maintenance and cultural practices.
  • Basic understanding of irrigation systems, pumps, controllers, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • State pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one within a designated period preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate employees.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by golf course conditions and tournament schedules.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive physical activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to safely operate equipment and perform maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work around fertilizers, pesticides, fuels, machinery, and other golf course maintenance materials while following all applicable safety procedures.

Performance Expectations

The Second Assistant Superintendent is expected to demonstrate professionalism, reliability, initiative, and a commitment to continuous improvement. This position should actively develop the technical and leadership skills necessary for advancement to First Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and ultimately Golf Course Superintendent.

Success in this position will be measured by the individual's ability to support the maintenance team, maintain high-quality turfgrass conditions, effectively manage assigned responsibilities, promote a safe work environment, and contribute positively to the overall presentation and success of the golf course.
