The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas is a federally qualified patient-centered health center dedicated to providing quality health care to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. Originally opened by Mt. Carmel Regional Medical Center as an extension of its mission, it is now a patient-owned and operated organization serving more than 50,000 children and adults annually. The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas employs more than 700 professionals and support staff at 18 locations throughout Crawford, Cherokee, Labette, Linn, Montgomery, Allen and Bourbon counties, and Ottawa County in Oklahoma.  The Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors which includes patients and community representatives. Medicare, Medicaid, KanCare and private insurance are accepted. Discounted rates for services are available for those meeting financial assistance guidelines. No-one is refused care due to inability to pay.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Marketing and Communications Specialist contributes to organizational storytelling efforts by developing written and visual content that engages patients, employees and the communities CHC/SEK serves. This role is responsible for developing marketing assets and coordinating social media and internal communications. The Coordinator also assists with graphic design, photography, videography, and website content updates.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Creates marketing materials based on established strategy, brand standards, and messaging guidelines.
  • Coordinates organizational social media accounts including, but not limited to, creating and maintaining content calendars, creating graphics, writing captions, maintaining a positive online presence by monitoring accounts and promptly responding to comments, messages, and reviews. 
  • Contributes to storytelling efforts by identifying, developing, and sharing stories that highlight employees, patients, and the organization’s impact. 
  • Curates content for the weekly Bulletin internal newsletter and writes articles for the monthly Chronicles employee newsletter with a focus on creating engaging content and fostering transparent communication.
  • Monitors social media, website, and digital advertising performance metrics and prepares quarterly reports with insights and recommendations.
  • Coordinates with external printers and vendors to ensure the successful production of materials.
  • Captures high-quality photography and produces video and audio content for marketing needs.
  • Support website management by assisting with content updates.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, graphic communication, graphic design, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Healthcare marketing experience strongly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, as travel is required. Must maintain driving standards—no more than 2 minor or 1 major driving violations within a 3-year lookback period.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; Adobe Creative Suite software, including Audition, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop; Canva; and social media platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.
  • Disciplined with strong time management skills; able to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to adapt and respond effectively to changing priorities and time-sensitive requests.
  • Strong writing skills for clear, concise, and engaging communication. Ability to write for various formats: articles, newsletters, emails, reports, and social media.
  • Provide customer service in accordance to the organization’s mission.
  • Social and cultural sensitivity appropriate to ethnically and economically diverse patient-and employee-base.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance to organization’s policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements.
  • Effective collaboration and communication within CHC/SEK and with the public, vendors, and partners.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily office-based work but expected to work in a variety of settings such as clinics, community locations, and/or venues.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, up to entire shift, regularly rotating between standing, walking, and sitting throughout the work shift.
  • Regularly lift and/or move items weighing up to 10 pounds, with occasional lifting or moving of items up to 20 pounds. 
  • May be required to carry and operate video and photography equipment for extended periods of time. 
  • Occasionally required to climb ladders to obtain photographs or video footage. 
  • Prolonged computer use is required, up to entire shift, including continuous, extended use of keyboarding, mouse use, and reaching. 
  • Regularly required to professionally communicate with others through speaking and hearing clearly. Environment may have varying noise levels from very quiet to moderate.
  • Requires close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for computer work, photography, and videography. Must be able to decipher color hues for graphics, logo accuracy, etc..
  • Works regularly in a high-demand, high-volume environment with urgent requests, frequent interruptions, and competing priorities. 
  • Requires the ability to respond quickly to changing needs and solve problems under time constraints. 
  • May have regular exposure to patients, visitors, or members of the public who may have communicable diseases. 
  • Driving to and from CHC clinics, community locations, meetings, or vendors is often required. 
  • Work may occasionally require flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, to support events, campaigns, or organizational activities. 
  • Requires the ability to manage multiple marketing and communications projects simultaneously while meeting established deadlines.
