The Coastal Construction Equipment PM Field Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and testing heavy equipment and related systems at customer job sites and other remote locations throughout the service territory. This position provides timely and professional onsite service to minimize equipment downtime and maximize customer productivity. The Field Technician performs advanced troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems while working independently in a mobile service environment. The role requires strong technical expertise, sound decision-making, and effective communication with customers, supervisors, and support personnel. The Field Technician is responsible for accurately documenting service activities, maintaining a safe work environment, and ensuring all repairs are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company quality standards. As a primary service representative in the field, this position plays a critical role in building customer relationships, delivering exceptional service, and supporting long-term customer success.
Requirements
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills on heavy machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software.
- Excellent problem-solving and time-management abilities.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and internal teams.
Preferred Qualification(s):
- Caterpillar equipment experience.
- Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems.
- CDL license or ability to obtain one.
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification or associate degree in Diesel Technology or related field preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
- Perform on-site diagnostics and repairs on heavy equipment.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections.
- Document all service work accurately in company systems.
- Communicate repair status and recommendations to customers.
- Maintain company service vehicle and tools in good condition.
- Adhere to all safety and environmental regulations.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- No direct supervisory duties; may mentor junior technicians as needed.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- 3+ years of experience in heavy equipment repair or field service.
- Strong knowledge of Caterpillar or similar machinery.
- Ability to work independently in remote locations.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in various outdoor conditions.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Mental focus for troubleshooting complex systems under time constraints.
Work Environment:
- Primarily field-based with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Frequent travel to customer sites within assigned territory.
- Standard business hours with occasional overtime and on-call duties.
