Job Description
**Role Overview**
We are seeking an experienced and visionary Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Cairo, Egypt. In this leadership role, you will drive the delivery of complex geotechnical scopes across diverse building and infrastructure projects. As the technical authority on geotechnical design decisions, you will mentor a talented team of engineers, collaborate seamlessly with clients and lead consultants, and serve as the primary geotechnical interface with specialist contractors.
**Specifications & Technical Documentation**
- Develop comprehensive specifications for geotechnical investigations, topographic surveys, geophysical studies, and remote sensing applications
- Prepare detailed construction specifications covering earthworks, piling, embedded walls, shoring systems, earth retaining structures, ground improvement techniques, slope stabilisation, and dewatering systems
- Prepare Geotechnical Interpretative Reports, Geotechnical Design Reports, and Desk Study Reports with precision and clarity
- Develop geotechnical chapters within structural design reports and contribute to technical proposals for tendering purposes
**Design & Analysis**
- Conduct bearing capacity, settlement, consolidation, and soil-structure interaction analyses using PLAXIS 2D/3D, Wallap, and L-Pile
- Perform shoring wall and foundation design optimisation across multiple structural load cases
- Assess slope stability, seismic, and liquefaction risks using appropriate software tools (Slope/W, Slide2, Liquefy Pro)
- Interpret CPT data and design ground improvement solutions using industry-standard software
**Review, Quality Assurance & Compliance**
- Review method statements, laboratory testing programmes, and specialist contractor submissions against issued specifications
- Monitor Instrumentation & Monitoring data against trigger levels during construction phases
- Conduct in-house QA/QC and external peer reviews of all geotechnical deliverables, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards
**Leadership & Stakeholder Management**
- Lead and mentor a team of senior and junior engineers across concurrent projects with a supportive and inclusive approach
- Serve as the technical signatory for geotechnical deliverables and manage workstream scope, programme, and fees
- Attend and lead meetings with clients, lead consultants, and contractors; coordinate across structural, civil, and environmental disciplines
- Represent the organisation in technical presentations, design workshops, and value engineering sessions, fostering innovation and continuous improvement
Qualifications
**Education**
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering (required)
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field (preferred)
**Experience**
- 15+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical design and investigation
- Proven track record delivering complex infrastructure and building projects
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring engineering teams
- Strong background in client and stakeholder management
- Site investigation and field experience on diverse project types
**Technical Skills & Software Proficiency**
- Advanced proficiency in PLAXIS 2D & 3D, Wallap, L-Pile, and Slope/W
- Competency in ground improvement design software (StoneC) and CPT interpretation tools (CLiq, CPT-IT)
- Proficiency in slope stability and rock engineering software (Slide2, Dips, Swedge)
- Working knowledge of liquefaction assessment tools (Liquefy Pro)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office Suite
- Working knowledge of QGIS for GIS applications (preferred)
**Design & Analysis Competencies**
- Expert-level knowledge of bearing capacity, settlement, consolidation, and soil-structure interaction analysis
- Proficiency in shoring wall, embedded wall, and foundation design across multiple load cases
- Advanced competency in CPT interpretation, ground characterisation, and lateral pile analysis
- Proficiency in slope stability analysis and seismic/liquefaction assessment
**Codes, Standards & Certifications**
- Working knowledge of AASHTO, ASTM, and IBC standards
- Proficiency in Eurocode 7 (EC7)
- International accreditations from reputable institutions such as ICE (preferred)
**Professional Competencies**
- Exceptional technical writing and report preparation skills
- Fluent proficiency in both English and Arabic languages.
