About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Area Manager to lead our Florida field operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and operational performance of Safe Site's Florida market. Success in this position means building and maintaining a Florida operation that performs at a high level across People, Safety, Quality, Customers, Financial Performance, and Growth. This is a hands-on leadership position requiring an individual who is comfortable working with technicians in the field, communicating directly with customers, managing daily operational challenges. At Safe Site, an Area Manager isn't simply responsible for managing today's schedule. They are responsible for helping build tomorrow's operation.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:
 

Operations & Resource Management

·Provide direct operational oversight and leadership for Florida field personnel across utility locating, SUE, mapping, and Hydrovac operations.

·Coordinate with Safe Site's scheduling, project management, and regional leadership teams to ensure projects are appropriately staffed and supported.

·Manage daily and weekly workloads based on customer priorities, technician capabilities, geography, equipment availability, and project deadlines.

·Monitor field productivity, utilization, project progress, and overall operational efficiency.

·Identify scheduling conflicts, resource constraints, project risks, and operational challenges and proactively develop solutions.

·Maintain awareness of vehicle, Hydrovac, locating equipment, and other field asset availability and operational readiness.

·Provide field and operational support when necessary to maintain customer commitments.

 
Team Leadership & Development

·Lead, coach, and develop field technicians and Hydrovac personnel.

·Establish clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, communication, professionalism, and accountability.

·Maintain consistent communication with field personnel regarding workload, project requirements, customer expectations, and company priorities.

·Support the onboarding, training, and continued development of new and existing employees.

·Identify opportunities to develop and cross-train employees across Safe Site's service offerings.

·Conduct employee performance discussions and work with Regional Management and Human Resources when additional development or corrective action is necessary.

·Promote and demonstrate Safe Site's C.H.A.S.E. values throughout the Florida operation.

 
Project Execution & Field Support

·Serve as the primary operational point of contact for projects within the assigned area.

·Review project scopes and requirements to ensure field personnel understand customer expectations and required deliverables.

·Participate in site walks, project kickoff meetings, and customer coordination meetings when necessary.

·Provide technical and operational support when challenging field conditions, utility configurations, access issues, or customer concerns arise.

·Ensure field personnel accurately document completed work, production, delays, site conditions, and changes in scope.

·Coordinate with Project Management on larger or more complex SUE projects requiring mapping, CAD, survey, engineering, or formal project deliverables.

·Identify out-of-scope work and communicate potential change-order requirements before additional work is performed whenever possible.

 
Safety & Quality

·Maintain accountability for Safe Site's safety and quality expectations throughout the Florida market.

·Conduct regular field visits and QA/QC reviews of locating, SUE, mapping, and Hydrovac operations.

·Ensure field employees follow required safety procedures, JSAs, equipment inspections, and project documentation requirements.

·Participate in investigations involving utility damages, vehicle or safety incidents, quality concerns, and customer complaints.

·Ensure corrective actions and lessons learned are communicated and implemented throughout the team.

·Maintain a culture where quality and safe execution remain priorities regardless of production demands.

 

Customer Relationships

·Develop and maintain strong relationships with Safe Site customers throughout Florida.

·Maintain proactive communication with customers regarding project progress, schedule changes, site conditions, and operational challenges.

·Partner with Sales and Regional Leadership to identify opportunities to expand existing customer relationships across Safe Site's service offerings.

·Help position Safe Site as a turnkey subsurface utility partner capable of supporting customers from initial utility investigation through SUE, mapping, and hydro-excavation.

 

Financial & Business Performance

·Maintain ownership and accountability for the operational and financial performance of the Florida market.

·Monitor technician utilization, overtime, travel, equipment utilization, production, and other factors impacting operational performance and project profitability.

·Ensure completed field work and required documentation move through Safe Site's operational workflow in a timely manner to support accurate billing.

·Monitor project status, documentation, QA/QC, and billing readiness within Salesforce Field Service and other company systems.

Requirements

·5+ years of experience in utility locating, SUE, hydro-excavation, underground utilities, construction, engineering support, or a related industry preferred.

·Previous supervisory, field leadership, or operations management experience preferred.

·Working knowledge of private utility locating and underground utility investigation practices.

·Familiarity with Subsurface Utility Engineering and ASCE 38 quality levels preferred.

·Understanding of hydro-excavation/potholing operations and associated safety requirements preferred.

·Experience managing field personnel, equipment, scheduling, and multiple simultaneous projects.

·Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

·Strong customer service and relationship-management abilities.

·Ability to understand project scopes, identify operational risks, and communicate changing field conditions.

·Ability to work effectively in both field and office environments.

·Ability and willingness to travel throughout Florida.

·Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
