What You Offer: 

Ideally, you have experience working with children, youth and young adults or vulnerable individuals in a health care setting.  We seek employees who align with our core values, which are: open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, demonstrate extraordinary effort and act with integrity. 

 

The Position: 

This is a permanent full-time position within our In-Home Program, supporting an adult participant in West Edmonton near the Hamptons area of the city. The position requires you to have a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle as the work schedule varies. For the first two weeks of the month you will be scheduled to work Tuesdays to Saturdays from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Last two weeks of the month you will be scheduled to work Tuesdays to Saturdays from Noon to 8:00 PM. 

This is a 45hr/week position. (*NOTE*: you will work some Mondays instead of Tuesdays due to family's work schedule.)

The Community Specialist (CS) will be reporting to the assigned Program Manager. As a Community Specialists (CS) you would be an ally and ambassador, you will work front-line and are pivotal to the creation of a safe, caring and community-enriched life for the individuals/families who hire us. Thoughtful program planning and implementation supports participants to connect with their communities - establishing real relationships and creating meaningful days and lives. The conscientious CS will act with integrity, be open to growth, live our purpose, cultivate teamwork, and put forth an extraordinary effort to empower people with diverse abilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong. 

  1. Provide direct care and purposeful support in an engaging, fun and safe environment
  2. Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities
  3. Empower people to create meaningful days and achieve their goals
  4. Communicate effectively with their team members, which includes to individuals, families, and co-workers
  5. Build a vision of inclusion, one person at a time
  6. Model socially appropriate behaviors and assist/ encourage participants to make and maintain appropriate community connections.
  7. Support participants in all aspects of personal hygiene and personal care as required 
  8. Maintain timely, accurate and professional documents in accordance with AdaptAbilities policies and procedures
  9. Understand and comply with all emergency processes and risk management
  10. Perform other job-related activities as required


Qualifications

  1. Minimum education requirement of a High School Diploma and little or no work-related experience.
  2. Alignment with AdaptAbilities core purpose and core values
  3. Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check are required upon hire
  4. Intermediate First Aid Certification CPR Level C and AED is required upon hire
  5. The candidate must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for use during work hours
  6. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol are an asset
  7. Strong strategies around boundaries and de-escalation are an asset


Compensation $20.39 to $21.42/ hour depending on experience and education
