About The Company
Kreios develops Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellites enabled by their proprietary Air-Breathing Electric Propulsion (ABEP) system, that makes it possible for satellites to operate at an altitude of around 200 kilometers from Earth, an altitude once considered impossible because of atmospheric drag.
By “breathing” the atmosphere as fuel, Kreios’ satellites can stay aloft for years instead of days, unlocking a region of space with massive implications for Earth Observation and Telecommunications.
VLEO satellites capture images with threefold the clarity of today’s constellations, enhancing everything from environmental monitoring and disaster response to critical infrastructure protection. Their proximity to Earth radically improves the link budget and allows broadband direct-to-device communications without bulky antennas, paving the way for truly global, resilient connectivity.
About the Role
Your mission
Lead the design and development of complex mechanical systems from requirements definition to validated hardware, ensuring an optimal balance between performance, manufacturability, cost, and reliability. As a technical reference within the team, you will drive engineering decisions, collaborate across disciplines, review designs, and contribute to the successful delivery of high-performance products for challenging aerospace and space applications.
Your profile
- Senior mechanical design engineer with 5+ years of hands-on experience.
- Strong expertise in advanced 3D CAD modelling, most preferably SolidWorks. Experience with Siemens NX, CATIA, Creo or equivalent CAD platforms is also valued.
- Demonstrated experience translating external and internal requirements into robust mechanical solutions, balancing performance, manufacturability, cost, schedule and integration constraints throughout iterative development cycles.
- Extensive experience designing complex mechanical components and assemblies, with a strong understanding of mechanical interfaces, system integration and configuration control.
- Proven ability to analyse engineering challenges critically, generate alternative design approaches, evaluate trade-offs and drive technical decisions based on engineering evidence.
- Strong experience creating detailed manufacturing documentation, including GD&T, interface definitions, assembly procedures and technical drawing packages.
- Good knowledge of manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA), particularly machining, metal fabrication, additive manufacturing and precision assembly.
- Experience collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, thermal, systems, manufacturing and test engineers, to converge on optimal technical solutions.
- Practical understanding of mechanical and thermal analysis workflows, including model preparation, meshing strategies, simulation setup, interpretation of results and validation of engineering assumptions. Direct hands-on FEA/thermal simulation experience is highly desirable.
- Experience managing CAD structures, revisions, configurations, technical baselines and documentation within a PDM/PLM environment.
- Strong experience working in collaborative design environments, coordinating parallel development activities and maintaining consistency across multiple subsystems and contributors.
- Detail-oriented, proactive and solution-driven, with excellent communication skills and the ability to constructively challenge assumptions when required.
- Motivated to work in a fast-paced and ambitious engineering environment, taking ownership of technical challenges and continuously improving both products and engineering practices.
Nice to Have
- Previous experience in the space industry is strongly preferred.
- Experience working on spacecraft, propulsion systems, scientific instruments, aerospace hardware or other highly demanding engineering products.
- Good understanding of the space engineering environment, including typical material selection constraints, environmental considerations, qualification approaches and industry best practices.
- Experience with thermal and structural simulation tools.
- Knowledge of ECSS standards and experience working within space, aerospace or other highly controlled engineering development processes.
- Experience with Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE, Teamcenter, Windchill or similar PLM/PDM platforms.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
Why us?
About us
We are leading the development of the first air-breathing electric propulsion (ABEP) system designed specifically for Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO). This revolutionary engine enables satellites to orbit between 150 and 300 km by capturing and using atmospheric particles as propellant.By eliminating the need to carry fuel onboard, we drastically increase efficiency and overcome the main challenge of atmospheric drag in VLEO. This disruptive technology opens the door to an entirely new generation of space services, from high-resolution Earth observation to near real-time communications.
To achieve it, we rely on a team of professionals who are passionate, visionary, and committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible. If you share this passion and want to leave your mark on the future of the space industry, we want to meet you.
