We are currently looking for a Business Manager COO (Director) in Amsterdam

Function positioning

As Business Manager COO, you will be a key member of the COO Management Team, providing strategic support to the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and COO Leadership Team. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will drive governance, business management, performance oversight and executive coordination across the COO function, helping to ensure effective decision-making, strategic execution and organisational effectiveness.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, providing challenge, insight and coordination within a complex and highly regulated financial services environment.

The role includes the following:

  • Support the COO in executing strategic priorities, business objectives and leadership accountabilities.

  • Partner with the COO to develop, implement and monitor the strategic direction of the COO function.  

  • Drive the continuous development of the COO operating model, governance structures and management disciplines.  

  • Coordinate governance forums, management meetings and executive committees, ensuring effective agendas, action tracking and follow-up.

  • Lead initiatives that promote employee engagement, collaboration and organisational effectiveness across the COO domain.

  • Oversee business management activities including governance, workforce planning, financial oversight, resource management and performance monitoring.

  • Develop and deliver high-quality management information, executive reporting, dashboards, presentations and briefing materials for senior stakeholders.

  • Drive the enhancement of management information frameworks, KPIs, KRIs and performance reporting capabilities.

  • Monitor strategic initiatives, transformation programmes and key business priorities, identifying risks, dependencies and opportunities for escalation.

  • Provide strategic analysis, insight and recommendations to support executive decision-making.

  • Coordinate regulatory requests, audits, remediation activities and governance action tracking on behalf of the COO domain.  

  • Represent the COO at meetings, committees, working groups and strategic initiatives where appropriate.

  • Build strong partnerships across Finance, HR, Risk, Compliance and other business functions to support COO objectives.

What will help you succeed in this role:

Experience & Knowledge

  • Significant experience within financial services, banking or another highly regulated environment.

  • Proven experience supporting executive committees, governance forums, senior executives and leadership teams.

  • Demonstrated success in governance, business management, strategic planning, performance management and executive reporting.

  • Experience operating across complex organisational structures and managing senior stakeholder relationships.

  • Strong understanding of organisational effectiveness, resource planning, budget management and operating models.

  • Experience developing executive dashboards, management information frameworks and performance reporting.

  • Experience working within a COO function and directly supporting a senior executive is highly desirable.

Skills

  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.

  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Ability to analyse complex issues and develop practical, business-focused solutions.

  • Strong organisational and execution skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities simultaneously.

  • Excellent attention to detail combined with the ability to maintain a strategic perspective.

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Experience creating impactful executive presentations, management reporting and dashboards.

  • Strong understanding of governance, performance management and business operations within financial services.

  • Commercially minded with sound judgement and decision-making capability.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional qualification.  

  • Professional qualifications in Business, Finance, Strategy, Project Management or Change Management are advantageous.

Additional information

The role is based in Amsterdam. All candidates need to be willing to relocate to the Netherlands. Internal employees will be supported in the case of relocation.
