Description
Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Group Home (Iowa)
Location: Group Home / Community-Based Setting
Schedule: Varies (days, evenings, weekends, overnights)
Status: Non-Exempt
Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides daily care and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in a group home setting. The DSP promotes independence, community involvement, and a safe, respectful living environment in accordance with Iowa HCBS/SCL standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with activities of daily living (personal care, meals, housekeeping)
- Administer medications after required training
- Support individual goals and skill development
- Provide supervision and ensure health and safety
- Transport individuals to appointments and community activities
- Complete daily documentation and incident reports
- Follow agency policies and Iowa HHS/HCBS regulations
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 18 years old
- Valid Iowa driver’s license
- Ability to pass required background checks
- Ability to complete required trainings (CPR, First Aid, Med Admin)
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Medication Manager Certification
