Our growing geospatial team is looking for an experienced GIS Project Manager who is ready to lead exciting projects, build lasting client relationships, and help shape the future of BETA’s GIS practice. You’ll collaborate with talented GIS professionals, engineers, planners, environmental professionals, and senior leaders to turn complex data and challenges into innovative solutions that make a real impact throughout New England.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead GIS projects from kickoff through completion, managing scope, schedules, budgets, resources, assignments, fieldwork, and deliverables to achieve client goals
  • Serve as the primary GIS project contact for municipal and state clients across New England, building strong relationships and translating client needs into practical, data-driven solutions
  • Direct project teams in the design and implementation of Esri-based GIS solutions, including ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder, Dashboards, Field Maps, Survey123, and custom applications
  • Provide technical leadership in GIS databases, applications, mapping products, system integrations, workflow development, and geospatial data management
  • Oversee the collection, integration, processing, analysis, and quality control of complex geospatial data to ensure accurate, reliable, and actionable project results
  • Leverage Python, Arcade, automation, and emerging GIS technologies to streamline workflows, improve efficiency, and solve complex client challenges
  • Lead QA/QC efforts and review GIS data, analyses, applications, maps, reports, and other deliverables for accuracy, consistency, and quality
  • Collaborate across disciplines with engineers, planners, environmental professionals, GIS staff, and other technical teams to integrate GIS into multidisciplinary projects
  • Visit client sites and project locations as needed to lead meetings, oversee implementation, conduct field data collection, and support successful project delivery
  • Mentor and support GIS staff, providing technical guidance, fostering collaboration, and supporting professional development
  • Partner with Senior Managers on strategic initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance GIS services, improve project delivery, and grow BETA’s geospatial practice
  • Support business development efforts, including proposals, interviews, presentations, and client pursuits related to GIS services


Preferred location is BETA’s Lincoln, RI office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

Required Experience/Skills:

  • 14+ years’ experience utilizing ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online for advanced geospatial analysis and project execution
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • Strong experience with ESRI technologies including:

o ArcGIS Pro

o ArcGIS Online

o ArcGIS Experience Builder

o Survey123/Survey123 Connect

o Field Maps

• Strong programming and automation experience using:

o Python

o Arcade

o JavaScript

o SQL 

  • Demonstrate a strong technical aptitude and a solid understanding of technical applications, concepts, principals, and theories in GIS
  • Demonstrated ability to create visually appealing and intuitive maps, with a keen eye for cartographic design and aesthetics
  • Strong understanding of geospatial databases, spatial analysis, GIS data structures, geodatabases, and schemas including domains and subtypes
  • Proficient in the use of current technology (i.e., tablets, smart phones, laptops, etc.)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and adaptable to support both development and operational GIS tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills 
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • GISP Certification
  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Geospatial Sciences, Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Experience with enterprise GIS environments and asset management systems
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Enterprise administration and deployment
  • Experience with APIs, web services, and GIS integrations
  • Knowledge of cloud-based GIS solutions and data hosting environments
  • Experience supporting municipal, public works, utility, or transportation-related GIS projects
  • Experience developing automated GIS workflows and custom geospatial tools
  • Interest in advancing enterprise GIS capabilities and modernizing workflows through automation and application development
