BODY SHOP PREPPER

Description
PURPOSE
The Body Shop Prepper supports the collision repair team by preparing vehicles and components for body repair and refinishing. This position is responsible for completing disassembly, preparation, cleaning, sanding, masking, and other assigned tasks to help Body Technicians and Refinish Technicians maintain an efficient workflow and deliver high-quality repairs. The Prepper is an important part of the repair process and is expected to protect customer vehicles, maintain a clean and organized work environment, and follow all safety and manufacturer repair procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare vehicles for collision repair and refinishing by completing assigned disassembly and preparation work.
- Remove and reinstall trim, moldings, lights, bumpers, grilles, mirrors, panels, interior components, and other vehicle components as directed.
- Properly label, organize, and store removed parts and hardware to prevent loss or damage.
- Prepare surfaces for body and paint repair by cleaning, sanding, scuffing, feathering, and performing other preparation procedures as assigned.
- Mask and protect areas of the vehicle that are not being repaired or refinished.
- Assist Body Technicians with repair preparation and other assigned tasks to maintain workflow.
- Clean and prepare vehicles and components before they move to the paint/refinish process.
- Assist with the installation and reassembly of replacement parts and components.
- Inspect completed preparation and reassembly work to ensure it meets quality expectations before moving the vehicle to the next stage of repair.
- Protect vehicle interiors, glass, trim, paint, and other components from damage throughout the repair process.
- Move and stage vehicles safely throughout the body shop and designated lot areas.
- Maintain tools, equipment, work areas, and supplies in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- Follow proper procedures for the handling, storage, and disposal of shop materials, chemicals, and waste.
- Follow all dealership safety policies, OSHA requirements, manufacturer procedures, and body shop processes.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safe work practices at all times.
- Immediately report additional damage, missing parts, equipment concerns, or repair issues to the Body Shop Manager or Foreman.
- Assist with maintaining an efficient repair flow by completing assigned work accurately and on schedule.
- Participate in required training and continuously develop collision repair knowledge and technical skills.
- Maintain a professional attitude and work cooperatively with all members of the collision repair team.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Disassemble vehicles and components as directed by the Body Shop Manager or Foreman.
- Prepare vehicles and surfaces for body and paint repairs.
- Sand, scuff, clean, mask, and otherwise prepare surfaces according to repair requirements.
- Remove, label, store, and reinstall vehicle components while preventing damage or loss.
- Assist Body Technicians and Refinish Technicians with assigned repair preparation tasks.
- Maintain protection of customer vehicles throughout the repair process.
- Move and stage vehicles safely.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation.
- Properly use and maintain shop tools and equipment.
- Follow all safety procedures and manufacturer repair standards.
- Complete assigned work accurately and within expected timeframes.
- Communicate repair concerns, missing parts, or additional damage to management.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to increase technical knowledge and prepare for advancement within the collision repair department.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous automotive, collision repair, body shop, or mechanical experience preferred but not required.
- Basic understanding of automotive vehicles and components.
- Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and willing to learn.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to safely operate dealership vehicles and maintain a valid driver's license, if required.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.
