About the Role

Description

Leads the day-to-day custodial operation. Plans, schedules, and directs the work of a small custodial team to maintain the cleanliness, hygiene, safety, and appearance of offices, breakrooms, restrooms, and other common spaces. Works alongside the team while holding the crew to consistent standards and keeping employee and visitor areas clean, stocked, and welcoming.

Leads the custodial function for the assigned campus, including but not limited to:

  • Leads and directs a team of custodians — assigns daily work, sets expectations, and inspects completed work against defined quality standards.
  • Plans and publishes custodial schedules — daily cleaning routes, shift coverage, PTO and absence coverage, and holiday or shutdown staffing — to keep all areas covered while controlling overtime.
  • Develops the periodic and deep-cleaning plan (floor care, carpet extraction, high dusting, glass and window cleaning, disinfection cycles) on a monthly, quarterly, and annual cadence, and schedules that work around business and production operations.
  • Receives, prioritizes, assigns, and closes custodial work orders and requests in Limble; documents labor hours, supplies used, and completion notes so records stay accurate and audit ready.
  • Manages custodial supply and equipment inventory — sets par levels, tracks usage and reorder points, submits purchase requests, and evaluates products, equipment, and vendors for cost and effectiveness.
  • Performs custodial work alongside the team: cleaning and sanitizing breakrooms and restrooms, restocking supplies, disinfecting high-touch surfaces, emptying trash and recycling, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning interior glass and windows.
  • Enforces safety, chemical handling (SDS), and PPE requirements; conducts area inspections, corrects or reports facility issues and hazards promptly, and supports inspection and audit readiness.
  • Coordinates with the Facilities Manager, department leads, and outside vendors or contractors on projects, events, special requests, and after-hours or shutdown work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three or more years of custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping experience, including at least one year in a lead, crew lead, or supervisory role (office or industrial environments preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage work schedules, assign daily tasks, and adjust coverage for absences, projects, and peak demand.
  • Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet, computer, and email; basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Working knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, chemicals, equipment, and floor care, including safe chemical handling and SDS requirements.
  • Ability to hold a small team accountable to consistent quality and safety standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to plan work ahead rather than react to it.
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and a positive, professional manner with employees, visitors, and vendors.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as bending, standing, and walking throughout the day.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
