General Maintenance Worker

This position is located in Wilmington, Delaware. Catholic Cemeteries of the Diocese of Wilmington is seeking a General Maintenance Worker who, while working under the direct supervision of the Working Foreman, will perform all the activities related to interments, entombments, dis-interments, foundation installation, memorial setting and resetting, and all the general and specialized maintenance programs for the Cemetery’s buildings and grounds.

The schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, but may occasionally require days or times outside the normal work schedule.

Essential Functions:

• Perform grounds maintenance such as, cutting and trimming lawns, spraying, gardening, snow and ice removal, painting, general maintenance and repair of structures and equipment, clean-up of buildings and grounds.
• Operate a variety of equipment, including mowers, edgers, blowers, weed whackers, tractors, saws, sprayers, snow blowers and maintain same.
• Assist backhoe operator with grave excavation by driving the dump truck, sod removal, monument removal if required, hand leveling of the grave, cleaning up excavation area, properly covering grave, laying down and picking up proper turf protection as required.
• Installing foundations for memorials, setting new memorials, resetting memorials from interments.
• Setting up tent and graveside equipment before an interment and removing the same after the interment, set vault and lid as required, backfill grave.
• Setting up equipment for entombments, removing crypt fronts, making entombments, reinstallation and sealing of inner and outer fronts as required.
• Performing requests for service.
• Renovating cemetery sections including the leveling, straightening, and realignment of memorials, grading, and reseeding.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Possess a knowledge of building, vehicle and grounds maintenance.
• Possess the ability to operate mechanical equipment and back up a dump truck.
• Possess basic landscaping and building maintenance skills, and an understanding of electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
• Possess time management skills, team player, cooperative, energetic, dependable, persistent, innovative, attention to detail, initiative.
• Ability to evaluate an assignment and determine the tools and equipment needed to do a specific task.
• Possess a valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record.
• Ability to build trust and rapport with individuals from diverse cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
• Willingness to consent to a satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening in accordance with applicable laws.
• Commitment to the mission and values of the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington.

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• Occasional weekends as needed
