Position Summary
The Patient Registration Clerk serves as a key point of contact for patients and visitors and supports the efficient operation of the health center. Under the supervision of the Health Center Director, this position is responsible for patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance verification, assisting patients with required forms and clinic procedures, and directing telephone calls.
The Patient Registration Clerk maintains a professional, welcoming, and confidential environment while ensuring accurate patient information and supporting effective patient flow throughout the clinic. This role requires strong customer service, communication, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced health care setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the flow of patients in and out of the clinic to support an efficient patient experience.
- Perform patient registration functions, including insurance verification and updating demographic and emergency contact information.
- Serve as a receptionist and liaison between patients, teammates, and clinical and administrative staff.
- Review patient-related forms for accuracy and completeness and assist patients with completing required documentation.
- Schedule patient appointments, accurately record information, and communicate appointment details effectively.
- Maintain accurate patient files and databases.
- Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and professional reception and work environment.
- Measure and maintain key metrics related to advanced access.
- Answer and appropriately direct incoming telephone calls.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and visitors.
- Assist trained staff and other team members as needed to support clinic operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in an office setting; medical office experience preferred.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and health insurance.
- Basic knowledge of health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, preferred.
- Strong oral, written, and telephone communication skills.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds and with varying needs.
- Typing speed of 40 words per minute preferred.
- Ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, initiative, and sound judgment.
- Ability to effectively manage difficult situations involving patients, staff, and customers.
