About the Role

Position Summary


The Farm Mechanic Level 3 is a senior-level, non-supervisory role responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and preventative maintenance on a wide range of farm equipment. This position serves as a key technical resource within the shop, providing guidance and support to other mechanics to ensure high-quality, efficient, and safe operations. This role requires a high level of independence, problem-solving ability, and technical expertise to support operational goals, while modeling best practices aligned with the company’s values of Excellence, Accountability, Transparency, and Stewardship (EATS).


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, and overhauls farm machinery, including tractors, sprayers, harvesters, and utility vehicles.
  • Performs advanced diagnostics and root cause analysis on complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Diagnoses and repairs multiple generations and models of tractor computers and electrical systems.
  • Accountable for resolving complex equipment issues and minimizing repeat failures
  • Ensures quality and consistency of repairs across the team
  • Disassembles and reassembles machines and equipment, testing operation and making necessary adjustments.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance, drivability assessments, and safety inspections.
  • Conducts detailed equipment inspections to identify damage, defects, or wear.
  • Performs in-field repairs independently, including breakdown response without shop support when necessary.
  • Serves as a lead technical resource for complex or recurring equipment issues.
  • Serves as the primary escalation point for unresolved mechanical issues
  • Actively develops Level 1 and 2 mechanics through hands-on training and knowledge transfer. 
  • Assists team members with troubleshooting and resolving difficult mechanical issues.
  • Promotes consistency in repair quality, safety practices, and maintenance standards across the team.
  • Recommends major repairs, rebuilds, or equipment replacement based on cost, safety, and operational impact.
  • Provides input on parts, vendors, and repair strategies
  • Analyzes cost-effectiveness of repairs versus replacement options.
  • Supports the development and improvement of preventative maintenance programs to enhance equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborates with farm supervisors and management regarding equipment performance, safety concerns, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensures all equipment complies with company safety standards and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Participates in safety inspections, incident investigations, and safety meetings as required.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized shop and work environment.
  • Drives trucks as needed to transport tools and equipment for field repairs.
  • Completes and submits maintenance reports, work orders, and purchase orders in a timely manner.
  • Supports equipment inventory, parts tracking, and maintenance recordkeeping processes.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with management, co-workers, vendors, and business partners.
  • Supports and promotes company safety, food safety, and operational policies.
  • Models company values and contributes to a positive and productive work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic troubleshooting skills
  • Strong expertise in farm equipment, diagnostics and repair technologies
  • Ability to perform complex problem-solving and root cause analysis
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software for modern agricultural equipment
  • Strong understanding of preventative maintenance systems and best practices
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to train, mentor, and support the development of other team members
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 5–8+ years of progressively responsible experience in farm equipment maintenance and repair
  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced diagnostics and complex equipment systems
  • Mechanic certification
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the Company’s insurance carrier
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
