About the Role

Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Selects appropriate equipment, supplies and technical factors to utilize for each exam/procedure.  
  • Ensures radiation safety by following the principle of ALARA in all aspects of imaging exams.  
  • Determines the most suitable anatomic position and shielding of patients following department policy and protocol and clinician orders.  
  • Reviews and processes images for storage by ensuring the proper views were obtained.  
  • Instructs and prepares patients for imaging examinations.  
  • Performs all quality control checks, as prescribed.  
  • Ensuring that appropriate contrast agents, if required, are administered and documenting activities related to their use, in line with state and institutional policies.  
  • Practices consistent patient safety measures ensuring the right patient, right dose/rate and right procedure/site/side.  


Regulatory Requirements

  • Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.  
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.  
  • Current certification by ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in CT; ARRT (CT), preferred.  
  • Current certification by the State of Florida.  
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification  
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

  • Demonstrates basic computer skills and knowledge consistent with the needs of their department.    


Safety/Environment

  • Knows the limitations of their license/certifications and does not practice outside these limitations.  
  • Maintains cleanliness of equipment and department  
  • Responsible for the safe handling of equipment as well as maintaining safety for themselves.  
  • Knows the proper procedure for calling codes and the proper response for each code according to department protocol (i.e. fire, lock down, infant abduction, bomb threat, etc.)  
  • Knows the proper procedure for reporting incidents involving the patient, visitor or employee.   
  • Knows where to find SDS information when needed.  
  • Is aware of hazards and hazardous materials and how to maintain a safe environment.
