About the Role

Description

This position is responsible for all duties that pertain to all of those tasks deemed necessary to maintain all farming operations of McEvoy of Marin.


General Description:

A list of general daily activities, including but not limited to, pruning, irrigating, pesticide and fertilizer applications, hedging, weeding, mowing, pest control, planting, tying and training young plants, grafting, soil and petiole sampling, cover crop application, erosion control, and harvesting. This role is very physical and works outside in all seasons.


  • Responsible for agriculture field work.
  • Working primarily with hand tools and some power tools, including the general use of agricultural water pumps for irrigation and knowledge of basic irrigation practices.
  • Participates in activities for crop care including but not limited to: new plantings, replanting, pruning, weeding, and harvest.
  • Uses equipment to prune, weed, replant, and irrigate.
  • Must be able to drive small equipment (such as diesel carts) safely and properly.
  • Maintain and clean work areas.
  • Supports the Mill during harvest and oil production.


Hours:

Summer: 6 AM – 2:30 PM

Spring/Fall: 6:30 AM – 3 PM

Winter: 7 AM – 3:30 PM


Salary: $22 to $24 per hour


Requirements

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

- Prolonged physical activity required including standing, sitting, climbing, squatting, kneeling, bending, mixing, loading, reaching, lifting, and walking on uneven ground for prolonged periods of time.

- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

- Works outdoors year-round

- Works around hazardous materials and equipment

- Frequent use of abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time with fatiguing or giving out

- Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving arm or while holding arm and hand in one position

- Ability to exert physically over long periods of time

- Ability to exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. Involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue.

- Coordinate movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

- Exposure to loud noise

- Works frequently in extreme temperatures and inclement weather


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

To be eligible for this position, the applicant must meet the minimum qualifications.


EDUCATION

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent work experience


EXPERIENCE NECESSARY

1-4 years of related experience working in a vineyard or orchard



EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE

Hand tools, power tools, need basic equipment knowledge and repair for compressors, reel mowers, rotary mowers, vertical mowers, blowers, weed whip, hand seeders, mulch spreaders, rotary spreaders, sand spreaders, hand held and backpack sprayers, hose-end sprayers, tree marking guns, arborist saws, compass saws, hacksaws, pruning saws, anvil pruners, loppers, root pruning scissors, thorn strippers, bench grafting knives, budding knives, pruning knives, rose budding knives, crop harvesters, forage harvesters, rototillers, soil tillers, rakes, weed sprayers, power saws, drills, shovels electric pruners, weeding knives, hand-held harvesters, flatbed trucks, mules & carts


Previous experience in irrigation installation, operation, maintenance and repair and tractor driving experience


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team

Ability to bring energy to the performance of a task

Ability to react with patience and level-headedness in rough terrain

Establishing and maintaining personally challenging achievement goals and exerting effort toward mastering tasks

Able to read & write some English or Spanish.

Must be able to drive over rough terrain with a tractor.
