Heartline Staffing is recruiting a Real Estate Tax Associate for a full-time, in-office attorney opportunity in Homewood, Illinois. This position focuses on commercial, industrial and investment property tax appeals and provides exposure to property tax law, economic development incentives and real estate taxation.
This opportunity is well suited for an Illinois-licensed attorney with strong legal writing, analytical and client-service skills. Prior property tax appeal experience is highly desirable; however, the position is also open to an attorney who demonstrates the ability to quickly master new concepts and achieve results.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Real Estate Tax Associate will prepare and manage property tax appeals involving income-producing and owner-occupied properties, analyze assessment and valuation information, assist with tax objection matters and communicate directly with clients and county representatives.
The attorney will also gain exposure to economic development aspects of property tax appeals, including incentive programs such as Class 6b, Class 7, Class 8 and Tax Increment Financing (TIF), following appropriate training and experience.

• $121,000-$130,000

PROPERTY TAX APPEALS
• Draft, File And Manage Complaints, Briefs And Supporting Evidence For Property Tax Appeals
• Handle Matters Involving Income-Producing And Owner-Occupied Properties
• Analyze Assessment Records, Valuation Histories And Related Documentation
• Develop Effective Appeal Strategies
• Manage Property Tax Appeals For Complex Real Estate Development Projects
• Work On Matters Involving New Construction, Substantial Rehabilitation And Demolition
• Maintain Appeal Dockets
• Monitor Filings And Deadlines
TAX OBJECTION & COURT SUPPORT
• Assist With Court Call Management
• Support Document Production For Tax Objection Cases In Circuit Court Proceedings
• Coordinate With County Representatives Regarding Hearings, Scheduling, Settlements And Refunds
• Prepare And Maintain Professional Correspondence And Legal Documentation
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & TAX INCENTIVES
• Participate In Economic Development Aspects Of Property Tax Appeals Following Appropriate Training And Experience
• Work With Class 6b, Class 7 And Class 8 Tax Incentive Programs
• Work With Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Matters
• Oversee Phases Of Obtaining, Monitoring And Renewing Tax Incentive Classifications
• Assist With Tax Proration Matters And Related Projects
CLIENT COMMUNICATION
• Communicate Professionally With Clients Regarding Appeal Status
• Manage Client Information Requests
• Communicate Appeal Outcomes And Strategic Recommendations

Requirements
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) Degree From An Accredited Law School REQUIRED
• Active Illinois Law License In Good Standing REQUIRED
