About the Role

SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATION

Part-time Lecturer(s), School of Communication (26270112)

The MA in Communication (MACOMM) and the MSocSc in Media Management (MMGT) are taught postgraduate programmes in the School of Communication. They prepare graduates for professional practice in strategic communication, advertising and brand management, and media and platform businesses across Greater China and international markets. Both programmes are undergoing curriculum renewal to connect established frameworks with current professional practice in AI-enabled workflows, digital growth, platform and product management, the creator economy, and capital markets.

To support this, the School is seeking a number of Part-time Lecturers to teach postgraduate courses in the subject areas below. Areas are organised by professional capability rather than by programme: several draw on courses in both programmes, and appointments will be made across the two programmes on a pooled basis. Candidates able to cover two or three courses within an area, or across adjacent areas, are particularly welcome and should indicate this in their application.

  • Digital & AI Marketing for Media
  • Global Media Marketing and Brand Internationalisation
  • Media Product Management: Strategy, Metrics and Practice
  • Creator Economy, Influencer Strategy and Creator-Network Operations
  • Corporate Financial Investigation and Reporting
  • Financial Communication and Investor Relations
  • Computational Advertising, Agentic AI and AI-Enabled Media Workflows

The ideal candidate should hold a master’s degree or above in a related discipline is preferred. Senior industry experience (typically 5 years or more, ideally at management level) relevant to the course(s) applied for is valued as highly as academic rank. Previous university or postgraduate teaching experience is highly preferred. As the medium of instruction is English, an excellent command of English is required; bilingual candidates (English plus Mandarin and/or Cantonese) are preferred, though candidates with strong industry experience and a monolingual profile will also be considered. Excellent communication skills, a strong sense of responsibility, and a passion for mentoring students are also essential.

Duties may also include the supervision of student projects, marking of examinations and assessed coursework, participation in the programme’s dual-tutor industry mentoring and Product Studio capstone, and any other work as assigned by the Programme Director.

The initial appointment will be offered on a part-time basis commencing in the 2026–27 academic year. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review and course availability.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Application Procedure

Applicants are invited to submit their applications at the HKBU e-Recruitment System, indicating the course(s) they wish to teach. Those who are not invited for an interview 8 weeks after submission may consider their applications unsuccessful. Details of the University’s Personal Information Collection Statement are available at https://hro.hkbu.edu.hk/en/worklife-at-hkbu/employee-favourable-environment.html#privacy-policy. Enquiries may be directed to the Programme Director, Dr. Anfan Chen (anfanchen@hkbu.edu.hk) or Prof Lola XIE (lolawxie@hkbu.edu.hk).

The University reserves the right not to make an appointment for the post advertised, and the appointment will be made according to the terms and conditions applicable at the time of offer.

Review of applications is ongoing until the positions are filled.
