Nearly 2,400 young people benefit from BGCMC programs at the 5 clubs county-wide and through outreach programs. About the Role

Description

  

Function: Under the direct supervision of the Transportation Supervision, the Van Driver is responsible for the operation of the van in transporting children from school to the Boys & Girls Club and driving on designated field trips.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: (not all-inclusive)

· Transport students from schools

· Transport students on designated field trips.

· Follow a pre-planned route according to a definite time schedule.

· Drive the van carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations and van operating procedures.

· Assume responsibility for the safety of children in loading, unloading, and transporting them from school to the club.

· Instruct children in safety precautions and practices.

· Maintains proper paperwork for attendance of children.

· Maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to Club Director.

· Inspect and swept van daily.

· Reports delays and accidents to the Club Director and Transportation Supervisor.

· Reports defects or problems with vehicle to Transportation Supervisor.

· Assures the van meets regular maintenance schedule.

· Perform other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.



Requirements

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: (not all inclusive)

· This position is Part-Time, afternoons and summer field trips.

· Should be a High School graduate or equivalent.

· Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License.

· Completion of a First Aid Course. 

· Completion of a performance test in bus operations. 

· Pass pre-employment background check, fingerprinting and drug test.

· Able to take precautions to avoid accidents.

· Ability to relate to children, parents, and Boys & Girls Club personnel.

· Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations.

· Ability to understand and conduct instructions.

· Must be able to perform work requiring good physical condition.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able to manage stress while dealing with passengers and traffic. Must be able to manage responsibility for the safety of passengers. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

· Required to sit and stand; able to manage and feel objects, tools or control; frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk and hear. Able to input, store, process and output information on a (computer) and other office equipment.

· Must regularly lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to fifty pounds and rarely 110 pounds. 

· Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

· Perform Safety-sensitive culture requiring a constant state of alertness. 

· The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high. 


DISCIPLINARY ACTION

Any bus van driver involved in an accident caused by them or found by an investigating police officer to have caused the accident and/or is give a summons for a moving violation may be terminated.


This position includes the following:

Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement
