About the Role

Description

This position will operate under a hybrid work arrangement, with office space available at the Agency's main location in Moss Point, MS, and in Harrison County, MS. The position may also include occasional work-from-home opportunities, as approved and based on the needs of the Agency. The employee will be expected to work from different locations as needed and will be required to travel between counties to provide services and support to the communities the Agency serves. Travel to other locations may also be required based on program and community needs. 


Position Overview

The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) Employment & Training Coordinator recruits, enrolls, coordinates, places, supervises, and provides ongoing support to adults age 55 and older who are seeking employment and may benefit from occupational training, retraining, skill development, and work experience.


Working within the requirements of the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), funded by the U.S. Department of Labor, the Coordinator connects eligible participants with appropriate community service and work-based training opportunities designed to enhance employability and prepare participants for unsubsidized employment.


The Coordinator develops and maintains relationships with employers, nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, and other community partners willing to provide supervised training and work experience opportunities for SCSEP participants. The position monitors participant assignments, verifies hours worked and training received, maintains accurate participant and employer records, and ensures program activities are properly documented and conducted in accordance with applicable SCSEP requirements. The position requires significant community outreach, relationship development, field supervision, recordkeeping, and communication with both participants and host agencies.


Physical Demands

Work involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office and the facility. Work requires routine travel to other locations for community or training events. Work involves using repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment. Must be able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Must be able to be active for extended periods of time without experiencing undue fatigue.


Mental Demands

Must demonstrate good communication and speaking skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.   


Special Demands

Must possess superior communication, professional etiquette, strong interpersonal communication, and relationship-building skills. Must be able to work effectively with older adults. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e. telephone, email, etc.). Must have advanced knowledge and skill in using MS Office and be able to learn program-specific databases and reporting systems. Must understand the fundamentals of automated data processing, and be able to quickly gain a detailed understanding of complex computerized and non-computerized information.





Requirements

Education

Associate degree in business administration, human services, social services, workforce development, education, public administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent education and relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.


Experience

A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in workforce development, employment services, case management, human services, senior services, community outreach, program coordination, or a related field preferred. Knowledge of federal grant compliance and documentation requirements preferred.


Experience working with older adults, individuals seeking employment, workforce programs, nonprofit organizations, government-funded programs, or employer development is highly desirable. Experience with workforce development programs, employment and training services, or developing employer and community partnerships.


Requirements

Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of car insurance, and reliable transportation, as regular travel within the service area may be required.

Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends when necessary for recruitment, outreach, training, or community events.
