About the Role

Position Summary: An Operations Specialist carries out duties associated with daily airport operational activities. Assists customers to insure a seamless airport experience. Performs airfield perimeter and terminal inspections and provides assistance with curbside traffic control. Assists with oversight of the Airport Volunteer staff. Performs communications, customer service, and other operations and emergency response coordination. 


Reporting Relationships:

· Reports to: Operations Manager or designee.

· Supervises: None 

 

Essential Functions:

· Perform airport perimeter and terminal inspections and Airport Safety Self Inspections. 

· Maintains radio contact with supervisor or dispatch as needed. 

· Be familiar with the contents of the Airport Certification Manual (ACM), the Airport Security Program (ASP), the Wildlife Hazard Management Program (WHMP) and the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP). This includes duties required under the AEP. 

· Ensure airport compliance with FAR Part 139 to include Wildlife Management Program.

· Ensure airport is in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations at all times.

· Courteously and tactfully interacts and assists tenants, passengers, fellow employees, the public and other airport patrons with telephone calls, questions or concerns, performance of tasks and other related assistance in a manner that supports the airport mission, value and vision.

· Retrieve and track airline statistics.

· Prepare monthly statistical reports and distribute as required.

· Coordinates and oversees Airport Volunteer Ambassador staff and ensures that ILM customers enjoy a seamless travel experience with outstanding customer service. Ensure that the Information Desk is up to date and stocked at all times. 

· Interaction with airline, FBO and TSA management and employees to ensure a high level of partnership with airport.

· Trained to perform dispatch duties accurately and thoroughly in the absence of a dispatcher as needed.

· Performs searches of vehicles having access to the SIDA in a satisfactory manner and in accordance with established protocol.

· Understands all internal as well as external airport customers, knows who they are, and anticipates and meets their expectations through quality service in accordance with the airport Mission, Values and Vision. 

· Carries out all responsibilities as an efficient and effective airport team member.

· Maintains a high level of bearing and Professional appearance. Includes the maintenance and appearance of departmental vehicles.

· Ensure Airport compliance with CFR 49 Part 1542.

· Maintains a clean and sanitary work environment at all times. 

· Performs security vetting duties per Part 1542, SIDA training, driver training.

· Performs other related duties as assigned in a competent and motivated manner.

 

Other Important Functions:

· Primary Contacts: Management, supervisors, employees, tenants, public and passengers, aviation personnel and visitors.

· Physical Demands: Some exposure to aircraft noise and fuels, daily contact with chemicals and airport construction. Potential exposure to aircraft and vehicle accidents. Position requires much standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing, pushing, pulling, lifting and walking. Some exposure to inclement weather.

· Working Conditions: Working hours are routinely 40 hours a week dependent upon scheduled shift. Must be willing to work any shift, weekends, and holidays. Due to the nature of responsibilities, may require longer work hours in order to complete assignments.

 

Qualifications: 

· Education/Knowledge: High School diploma or GED. Must possess a valid North Carolina Class “C” driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to maintain insurability by ILM. Must also be qualified to obtain a North Carolina Class “A” driver’s license.

· Experience: No formal related experience required. Airline or aviation related experience preferred.

· Skills/Aptitudes: Must be able to react quickly and calmly in emergencies, and be able to operate motor vehicles in dangerous situations. Must be able to physically perform basic functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting.
