Backend Tech Lead (m/f/d)

Your mission

As our Backend Tech Lead, you will help shape the technical direction of our SaaS backend and enable the team to build reliable, scalable, secure, and maintainable services.

You will combine hands-on software engineering with architectural leadership, technical mentoring, and close collaboration across Engineering, Product, and customer-facing teams.

In this role, you will:

• Lead the design, implementation, and deployment of serverless backend services on AWS.
• Define and communicate the technical direction, architectural principles, and engineering standards for backend systems.
• Make pragmatic architecture decisions that balance scalability, reliability, security, maintainability, and delivery speed.
• Support the evolution of a secure, multi-tenant infrastructure for collecting and analyzing customer data.
• Take ownership of applications throughout their lifecycle—from customer discovery and technical design to deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Mentor backend engineers through feedback, knowledge sharing, and technical guidance.
• Encourage autonomy, constructive challenge, and healthy technical debate within the team.
• Collaborate closely with embedded, mobile, frontend, QA, Product, and customer-facing teams.
• Participate in agile and design-thinking processes, including direct interaction with stakeholders and customers.

You bring:

• Strong experience in backend software engineering, including responsibility for the technical design and delivery of backend services or products.
• Experience providing technical leadership, architectural guidance, or mentoring to other engineers.
• Practical experience designing, building, and operating serverless infrastructure on AWS or another major cloud provider.
• A strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, databases, security principles, and multi-tenant architectures.
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Travis CI, AWS CodeBuild, or comparable solutions.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using tools such as CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK.
• A track record of making and clearly explaining technical decisions in a collaborative environment.
• An ownership mindset and an interest in supporting applications throughout their entire lifecycle.
• The ability to coach and support engineers while encouraging autonomy and constructive technical discussion.
• Pragmatic judgment when selecting technologies and balancing long-term quality with delivery needs.
• Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
• Excellent English communication skills.

• Provide clear technical direction and help the team make consistent, well-informed architectural decisions.
• Contribute hands-on to backend services and support the successful delivery of team priorities.
• Identify technical risks and improvement opportunities and translate them into clear, actionable priorities.
• Strengthen the reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability of our backend systems.
• Help engineers grow while supporting their autonomy and ownership.
• Balance long-term technical quality with customer needs and delivery priorities.
