About the Role

Description

SUMMARY:

The Shipping and Receiving Clerk organizes, distributes, and verifies the work of others and participates in their training. The Shipping and Receiving Coordinator also maintains, updates, and verifies the accuracy of records and ensures the processing and forwarding of merchandise. They are also responsible for preparing merchandise to be returned to suppliers or delivered to customers, as well as handling all claims and queries with suppliers, freight companies, and internal managers.


Requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verifies all incoming shipments for correct packing slip, bill of lading information and visible damage. Communicates and follows up on discrepancies with suppliers, freight companies, and customers. Communicate with others to ensure shipping-related problems are resolved.
  • Ensures that merchandise is processed, including labeling and pricing, and forwarded to appropriate sales and storage areas. 
  • Arranges for merchandise to be returned to suppliers or delivered to customers. Arranges for best method of transport. Ensure shipping documents are complete. 
  • Prepare activity report for Supervisor regarding the operations of the area. Ensure all relevant files are maintained and organized. 
  • Calculates estimated cost associated with the shipping/delivery function and recommends appropriate alternatives.
  • Ensures the cost effectiveness of the department with the control of labor utilizations – preventing excess hours, downtime and overtime, and efficient usage of transportation-related equipment.
  • Promote safety policy within department.
  • Recommends and assists in implementing operating procedures and promotes continual improvement within the department and company.
  • Follows ISO processes and makes recommendations for improvement when applicable.
  • Maintains communication with direct lead and other project team members.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Promote a positive work environment.
  • Other Duties, tasks, and responsibilities that may be assigned at any time.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to go through a DMV background.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must drive company vehicle to and from UPS & FedEx facility drop-off locations. 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of prior experience in relevant field.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (with or without reasonable accommodation)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • The performance of this position will require exposure to the manufacturing areas where all areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, steel toe shoes, and other mandatory safety equipment.
  • Work is performed in a research/light-production environmentally controlled environment.
  • Exposure to dust and powder metal/plastic particles will require use of a respirator. 
  • Occasional exposure to coolants or lubricating solutions, moving machinery, heat, compressed air, and electrical power. 
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing specific tasks in production areas.
  • Exposed to repetitive use of fingers, hands and arms.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift) on a manufacturing floor 
  • Frequent use of hands for handling, sanding, polishing, grinding, and finishing parts 
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull materials weighing up to 25–50 pounds, with or without assistance 
  • Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching 
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination required to operate finishing tools and equipment 
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing 
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include exposure to dust, fumes, noise, chemicals, and varying temperatures 
  • Ability to distinguish colors, finishes, and surface defects as needed for quality inspection 
  • Sufficient vision (with or without correction) to inspect detailed parts and surfaces 
  • Ability to safely operate finishing equipment such as grinders, sanders, bead blasters, or similar tools
