Staff Property Accountant

Description
This position is responsible for managing financial records, ensuring compliance with
accounting standards, and providing accurate financial analysis to support operations and
decision-making. This role collaborates across departments to enhance financial performance,
improve efficiency, and streamline processes while consistently modeling the organization’s
purpose, values, and standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Financial Reporting & Close:
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and reports for assigned real estate properties.
- Perform month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Reconciliations & General Ledger:
- Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Review and reconcile year-end tax adjustments with balance sheet accounts.
Accounts Payable & Billing:
- Review and process vendor invoices for accuracy, coding, and timely payment.
- Generate tenant invoices, rent increase letters, and monthly billing statements.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis:
- Support budgeting and forecasting by analyzing historical data and trends.
- Prepare annual budgets and multi-year financial projections.
- Monitor cash flow, assist with projections, and initiate transfers as needed.
Real Estate & Property Accounting:
- Prepare and analyze CAM reconciliations and review lease terms for accuracy.
- Communicate overages or shortages to tenants.
Compliance, Tax & Audit:
- Prepare and file monthly sales tax reports.
- Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation to external auditors.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, loan requirements, and reporting deadlines.
Systems & Process Improvement:
- Account for construction projects using Yardi Job Cost module.
- Support team members with accounting system inquiries.
- Identify and implement improvements to processes and internal controls.
Requirements
Core Competencies & Required Skills/Abilities:
Technical and Functional Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience with general ledger accounting and reconciliations
- Real estate/property accounting knowledge (including CAM and lease analysis)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or similar)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail and accuracy

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Minimum 1 year of accounting or finance experience (real estate/property management preferred)
- Experience with accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, or equivalent)
