Job Description
This person will have overall financial responsibility for managing the accounting and tax affairs of the local operations of Rotork Japan, together with preparation of the monthly management accounts, forecasts, budgets and annual statutory accounts for the businesses. This will include preparation of financial information and statistics regarding the performance of the company, as well as ensuring that adequate controls are in place and ensure that corporate governance measure is correctly implemented and monitored as directed by the Rotork Group Finance function. You will be required to work within a regional / end market matrix structure, and with the other Rotork Financial Controllers.
This role will be a key business partner to the Japan Country Manager and will form an integral part of the local country management team.
Operational
Full fiscal control of Rotork Japan and ownership of finance function
Cash management and forecasting
Control of nominal ledger
Control of fixed assets
Preparation of control account reconciliations
Production of VAT returns
Maintenance of agent's commission system
Control of product cost system and understanding profitability of projects
Responsibility for accounting systems within the company, ensuring continued improvements are made and discussed with the relevant direct and indirect reporting lines, including developing enhanced computer systems.
Ensure that the credit control of the company is effectively handled and to notify the relevant direct and indirect reporting lines including Group Credit Controller of any transgressions or risks.
Identifying improvements in the control environment of Rotork Japan to ensure accurate and timely management of financial reporting.
Provide support for the Japan Country Manager and Sector Managers across all aspects of the business Review finance reports explaining trends and variances within the subsidiary to ensure Country Manager understands the performance of the region.
Reporting and Planning
Production of monthly management accounts to Group deadlines and in accordance with Group policies and procedures.
Review and interpret results for the relevant Market Segments to Direct and Indirect reporting lines. Ensure that any issues are highlighted to the direct and indirect reporting lines.
Taking overall control of the company’s income statement and balance sheet forecasts to ensure accuracy of reporting to head office.
Assisting the Country Manager in the annual budget process to provide a full and correct view of the company’s business.
Preparation of year end reporting pack.
Preparation of local statutory financial reports and arranging to have them audited and filed.
To perform financial analyses of specific capital projects as appropriate, and to ensure that all capital expenditure requiring Group approval obtains such approval through the preparation of the appropriate capital budgets.
Control and Governance
Control of statutory and management accounting for Rotork Japan. This includes knowledge of and compliance with current regulations, tax and other fiscal controls of the business.
Responsible for the internal control and risk assessment for the legal entity. Follow up action points to ensure they are implemented on a timely basis.
Constantly monitor and improve the company’s systems and procedures relating to its accounting and reporting to ensure that total integrity is maintained within the systems in terms of: Compliance with group policies and procedures.
Compliance with local legal requirements.
Avoidance of fraud
Provision of accurate and timely management information.
Stewardship of company assets. Ongoing audit of transactions and processes to achieve the above
Payroll
Prepare and maintain the Monthly payroll and ensure that the salaries of employees are paid on time.
Make sure the deductions on tax/insurances/pensions etc are calculated according to the local regulation.
Work closely with the regional HR manager to ensure the joiners and leavers are added/ delated in the salary at the proper month. These pro-rated salaries are calculated correctly.
Quarterly/annual reporting on the payroll tax according to the local tax requirements.
Other
Full responsibility for liaison with local tax office and preparing tax reconciliations.
Preparation of the Corporation tax return or supervising local advisors in its preparation.
Provide Support with ad hoc projects and requests throughout the year.
Local knowledge of HR and IT.
To keep alert to financial and economic changes, and to current and impending financial legislation, that is relevant to the company’s existing or planned operations.
Ensure that all risks that are seen are notified of the relevant reporting lines and improvements made where necessary.
Ideal Experience
Certain years post qualification experience, the latter part in a senior financial role within an MNC.
Commercial finance experience and exposure to customers, suppliers and other aspects of a business would be an advantage.
Experience of credit risk, viability of vendors, quality of outside advisors would be useful but not essential, as would experience in implementing new finance and related systems.
Experience in dealing with professional advisors at peer level.
Ability to manage staff at junior and senior levels and work within a global matrix structure.
