POSITION SUMMARY:
The International Freight Pricing & Procurement Manager is responsible for the procurement policies and activities for all international freight products, including ocean freight, air freight, imports and exports. They will help create and maintain tools where the procured rates and options can be found and guide the company in using appropriate options and appropriate price levels. This role will also help ensure that Mohawk’s procurement is in place to support initiatives and client requirements
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead transformation to Rate Management Provider or Solution.
- Develop program for servicing Client Rate Sheet program for over 180+ clients.
- Negotiate procurement across international products, including FCL, LCL and Air Freight.
- Monitor and maintain global ocean carrier and consolidator partnerships and strategies.
- Oversee carrier contracts and stay close on amendments and changes.
- Develop partner strategies and allocation selections, and monitor partners for performance.
- Enhance US export product oversight from a procurement standpoint.
- Curate relationships with ocean carriers, consolidators and air freight providers.
- Develop benchmarking analytics and tools to ensure procurement is keeping up with industry standards.
- Review new product offerings and develop strategies to help bring them to Mohawk clients.
- Lead RFQ efforts in sourcing costs and managing inputs to allow for competitive responses.
- Ensure FMC compliance on ocean rate offerings.
- Maintain reporting about booking and carrier activity and report to stakeholders.
- Aid in solution designing for current client needs and for target clients.
- Advance market knowledge in various tradelanes to ensure we remain highly knowledgeable of broad markets.
- Liaise with overseas procurement teams to ensured aligned strategies and influence as needed.
BENCHMARKS FOR MEASURING SUCCESS:
- Integration of current procurement landscape into a managed rate warehoused environment
- Negotiation of new consolidator contracts on import side of LCL business
- Development of company wide tool for delivery of contract pricing across different modes and origins
- Incorporating dynamic LCL pricing into the client rate sheets
- Incorporating dynamic air freight pricing into the client rate sheets
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Technical Skills:
- Experience with rate management platforms of any kind.
- Strong Microsoft Excel experience required, familiarity with Power BI will be helpful but not required.
- Should be comfortable using large Excel-based data sets and analyzing them.
Business Skills:
- Must have experience with ocean freight contracting, with additional consideration given if experience in the negotiation side, as well.
- Must have strong understanding of ocean freight dynamics, including experience in Trans-Pacific, Trans-Atlantic and India Sub-Continent trade lanes.
- Strong understanding of ocean carriers, alliance orientation and service strings.
- Additional experience in an air freight environment would be helpful, but not required
Leadership Skills:
- Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to a small team of Pricing Analysts (1-2 people)
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years in NVOCC / Freight Forwarding or similar industry roles.
- 2+ years direct experience in client quoting or freight procurement roles.
- 1+ years working with rate management systems, either third party or proprietary.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 7+ years in NVOCC / Freight Forwarding or similar industry roles.
- 3+ years direct experience in client quoting or freight procurement roles.
- 2+ years working with rate management systems, either third party or proprietary.
OFFICE / WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position operates in a professional office environment (and/or remotely from a home office) with a quiet to moderate noise level and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such computers, photocopying machines and storage/filing cabinets. This is a largely sedentary role, however, lifting items under 25 pounds as well as the ability to bend, stand and walk short distances may be required.
Travel Requirement: 10%-20% travel to meet with ocean carriers, visit Mohawk’s Syracuse, NY HQ and attend conferences and other industry events.
