About the Role

Granules Pharmaceuticals Inc., (GPI) is a subsidiary of Granules India LTD.  Over the past 34 years, we have worked towards strengthening our core and we are currently the 10th fastest growing generic pharma company in the US!

With our sites in Chantilly and Manassas, Virginia, we have R&D through manufacturing and packaging of our medicines including pulsatile drug release in tablet and capsule dosage form, orally disintegrating modified release tablets (XR, MR, ER), modified release suspension and controlled substances capabilities in an abuse deterrent technology platform.

The Payroll Administrator is responsible for the accurate preparation, documentation, distribution, and reconciliation of payroll and the administration of the payroll system. This role supports payroll compliance, tax reporting, HRIS administration, timekeeping, leave tracking, and employee payroll support while ensuring adherence to federal, state, provincial, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, customer-focused, and capable of managing sensitive information with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality. 


Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  

Payroll Administration

  • Process payroll for all North American locations accurately and on schedule.
  • Collect, review, and validate payroll data, including hours worked, overtime, bonuses, leave balances, and other earnings.
  • Calculate wages, deductions, taxes, benefit contributions, garnishments, levies, and other payroll-related transactions.
  • Maintain payroll records for new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, compensation changes, and other employee status updates.
  • Audit payroll data and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll processing.
  • Coordinate payroll activities with Finance, HR, and external payroll providers as needed.
  • Prepare payroll reports for leadership, Accounting, auditors, and regulatory agencies.


Payroll Compliance & Tax Administration

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local payroll regulations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of payroll laws, tax requirements, and reporting obligations.
  • Administer payroll tax filings, e-filing requirements, and tax payments.
  • Prepare payroll tax reports and support payroll-related regulatory reporting.
  • Maintain payroll documentation, records, and audit trails in accordance with retention requirements.
  • Escalate and resolve payroll compliance issues promptly.


Timekeeping & Leave Administration

  • Administer timekeeping processes and enforce payroll submission deadlines.
  • Audit timesheets for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies.
  • Track and maintain employee paid time off balances and leave records.
  • Administer leaves of absence, including FMLA, state leave programs, ADA accommodations, military leave, and other approved absences.
  • Coordinate leave approvals, payroll impacts, and return-to-work tracking with managers and HR.
  • Ensure leave administration complies with applicable laws and company policies.


Benefits & Payroll Reconciliation

  • Ensure accurate payroll deductions for employee benefits and retirement programs.
  • Reconcile benefit carrier invoices against payroll and enrollment records.
  • Identify, research, and resolve billing discrepancies with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain reconciliation documentation to support audits and financial reporting.


Employee Support & Issue Resolution

  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, taxes, leave balances, direct deposit, and payroll processes.
  • Administer direct deposit setup, changes, and maintenance.
  • Research and resolve payroll issues, discrepancies, and reporting questions.
  • Provide professional and timely customer service to employees and managers.


Audit & Reporting Support

  • Support internal and external audits by preparing payroll records, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with compliance reviews and payroll control testing.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Knowledge of payroll administration, payroll taxes, wage and hour regulations, and payroll compliance requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and calculations.
  • Proficiency in HRIS, payroll software, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and auditing skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet recurring payroll deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Paylocity is a plus.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation or progress toward certification.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or other regulated environment.
  • Experience supporting audits, leave administration, and benefits reconciliation.


Experience & Education

  • 2 to 4 years of payroll processing, and related administrative function
  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, federal and state regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and Microsoft Office tools.
  • High attention to detail with excellent organizational and follow up skills
  • Strong ability to handle confidential information with integrity and discretion
  • Ability to solve problems, analyze discrepancies, and work cross-functionally with HR and Accounting.


Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Standard office working conditions apply, with occasional event coordination support requiring standing, walking, and light physical activity in meeting rooms or event spaces.

Occasional local travel (between Manassas and Chantilly offices)
