About the Role

Description

You're already the person other teachers come to. You've run the room, taken ownership of a program, and shown a newer teacher how it's done. Come do that at a Team Lead at NY Preschool and Kids Club.

We're hiring a Head Coach to lead our enrichment program for children ages 2 to 6 (music, art, dance, drama, and gym), run our Afternoon Club after-school program, and lead our Department of Education gym classes for preschool. It's a player-coach role: you'll teach about 25 to 30 hours a week and spend the rest coaching the team, modeling great instruction, and getting new hires up to speed.

You'll thrive here if:

  • You lead by doing, and can teach a class so well that watching you is the training.
  • You've coached or mentored other teachers, whether it was official or just because you model best practices.
  • You have depth across enrichment (music, art, dance, drama, or gym) and are comfortable leading an active gym and movement class.
  • You're confident with parents and comfortable being the most animated person in the room.

As part of the interviewing process, you'll teach a short lesson to a small group of children, then demonstrate coaching our team through how you'd teach it, as if they are new hires. If that sounds fun rather than scary, you're our person.

More details: The schedule is Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm, at our Dumbo location. Pay is $25 to $32/hr based on ECE credentials. The role earns at $25/hr and increases with ECE degree enrollment, a BA or MA in ECE, and/or certification. You don't need an ECE degree or certification to start, and if you're selected, you would complete a background check, fingerprinting, and references. Full benefits, PTO, 401(k), tuition assistance, plus commuter and fitness perks.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong background in one or more enrichment areas (gym, dance, music, art, drama, or movement) for children, with the ability to model best practices for other teachers. This role leads all of our enrichment classes, runs our Afternoon Club after-school program, and leads our Department of Education (DOE) gym classes, so comfort leading gym and movement is essential.
  • Experience teaching adult participation and/or independent participating classes with children ages 2-6.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or supervising peers, ideally in an educational or performance-based setting.
  • Confident in public speaking and parent-facing communication.

Experience Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of teaching experience in early childhood, enrichment, or performing arts preferred.
  • Prior experience in a supervisory, lead teacher, or team lead role strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, child development, performing arts, or related field is a plus.

Physical Demands:

The role involves standing, walking, sitting, constant movement, and occasional climbing. The ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds is required. Specific sensory abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus.

Inclusivity and Diversity:

NY Kids Club & NY Preschool is committed to an inclusive and diverse community. We celebrate differences, leading with kindness and respect. We are an equal opportunity employer, prohibiting discrimination based on various factors.

Accommodations:

The NY Kids Club complies with ADA requirements. If you need accommodation in completing the application, please contact interview@nykidsclub.com.
