Our programs serve a diverse group of over 1,000 children ages 3-12 and are located on-site in 10 Seattle Public Schools locations, 3 community centers and one Impact Public Schools location. The Expanded Learning Opportunity (ELO) Director works directly with Program Site Managers, with support from Regional Program Directors, to deliver program quality services, coaching and support to ensure out-of-school time programs meet all required internal and external performance standards and regulations. The ELO works closely with members of the Program Services Team, the Leadership Team, the Executive Team, other Launch departments/committees, and community stakeholders on various grants, contracts and meso or macro level policy initiatives that impact school-age childcare programs and the youth development field.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist school-age programs in implementing required components from the expanded learning framework, supporting access to curriculum or providing additional enrichment strategies to be used by Launch.
• Appropriately plan and manage an operating budget tied to grants, contracts or other revenue
• Attain trainer certification through the Weikart Center for Youth Program Quality, Department of Children Youth and Families, Crisis Prevention Institute and other training mediums that improve program delivery and student experience
• Maintain positive relationships and advocate for childcare with community members, intermediaries, foundations, and businesses within the state (Department of Children Youth and Families), or City of Seattle, King County, and Seattle Public Schools
• Maintain communication with SPS Community Alignment Department and their district officials, administrators, principals, family resource workers, mental health providers and other childcare entities within the circuit for optimum collaboration and to anticipate upcoming district changes
• Maintain a Data Sharing Agreement with Seattle Public Schools and manage weekly student data reports via CSV files as well as Unified Insights and Student-at-a-Glance platforms
• Support implementation and execution of assessment tools such as the Social Emotional Learning Program Quality Assessment Tool (SEL PQA) within ELO classrooms. Manage, track, and utilize data to present key performance measurements.
• Partner and maintain positive relationships with University of Washington and Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Education, Communities and Organizations (ECO) programs for recruitment of interns as a pathway to an experienced applicant pool.
• Assist in establishing and maintaining an effective system of engaging families with Program Site Managers in developing children's individual learning goals, planning curriculum, coordinating disability services, collecting evidence, and recording children's on-going learning, and measuring child outcomes.
• Conduct and/or coordinate the student surveys and other required assessments and/or screenings. Manage, track, and utilize data to present key performance measurements at individual, site and organizational levels.
• Assist programs in ensuring the quality and consistency of developmental programming to include environment, equipment, materials, program structure, curriculum, risk management practices, and oversight and coordination of activity schedules and lesson plans
• Coordinate and order materials, supplies and equipment based on observations, teacher input, the findings of the assessments and other consultant observation
• Assist programs in coordinating programming that supports the children’s physical, social/emotional, cognitive and language development regardless of setting or length of time in care
• Facilitate reflective practices for all enrichment teachers on varying topics instrumental to their teacher or leader development
• Lead, facilitate and deliver professional trainings based on input from direct staff, students, parents, or other stakeholders
• Provide coaching and side-by-side reflective relationships, technical assistance, and support at each school-age site
• Provide support and coordinate special needs and early intervention services, including the collaboration with community early intervention service providers including children with serious health care conditions
• Role model appropriate behaviors and techniques working with children
• Prepare reports, document work, and meet all reporting deadlines
• Attend leadership meetings and operations meetings and provide progress reports as requested

Summer Programming

•  The Summer Program is subject to include all responsibilities mentioned above as well as:

The Expanded Learning Opportunity Director (working in tandem with the Early Learning Director and a committee) will oversee the annual implementation and execution of a unified summer program plan for all participating Launch locations and coordinate to provide the needed funding, training, curriculum, partnerships and materials/supplies based on youth interest

Qualifications

Minimum Education, Experience & Training Equivalent

The ELO Director shall meet ONE OF THE FOLLOWING for state licensing qualifications:

1. An associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Youth Development, Child Development, or a related field, which can include Youth Recreation/Development, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Psychology, Social Work with an emphasis in Human Development or other degrees as appropriate AND 5 years’ full-time experience in working with children and/or youth and training adults
2. A Bachelor’s degree or higher in these areas and 3 years of full-time experience working with children and training adults.

• Previous experience as a preschool and/or after-school educator.
• The ability to lead staff in implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum
• The ability to problem-solve, think strategically, and handle sensitive information and difficult situations tactfully and confidentially
• The ability to exhibit cultural humility when working with staff and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
• A strong understanding of childcare and school-age WACs, YPQ, Practiced based Coaching, Restorative Practices, and Nonviolent Crisis Prevention.
• The ability to lead by example and routinely demonstrate behavior consistent with Launch’s values, or children, families, employees, and mission.
• The ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and empathetically in both written and verbal formats.
• The ability to work effectively in a normal office environment; physical requirements include normal walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing, and reaching activities and the ability to regularly lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.
• The ability and willingness to travel to other Launch worksites as needed.
• Strong organizational skills, demonstrated by (but not limited to) a safe, clean, and effectively managed worksite and compliance with Launch’s confidentiality policy regarding child, family, and employee information.
• Proficiency with appropriate software, including SharePoint, MS Office, Panorama, and ProCare.
