About the Role

Zachry Group is seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent to lead and oversee industrial maintenance activities at the CPC Cedar Bayou facility in Baytown, Texas. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience managing maintenance personnel, subcontractors, and client relationships within a heavy industrial or petrochemical environment.

Candidates must have strong mechanical maintenance experience involving equipment such as pipe fabrication systems, furnaces, heat exchangers, filters, reactors, extruders, compressors, and boilers. This position requires exceptional leadership, planning, budgeting, safety, and execution skills to ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage field maintenance, construction, engineering, and project support activities.
  • Supervise development of maintenance and project schedules and monitor production to ensure timely completion.
  • Review cost reports and perform analyses to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining productivity.
  • Establish labor requirements and coordinate staffing needs with district and divisional management.
  • Define project organization structure and coordinate staffing requirements with supporting departments.
  • Provide strong leadership and establish an execution framework that delivers quality, value, safety, timeliness, and profitability.
  • Conduct regular field inspections and advise supervision regarding work progress, quality, and safety concerns.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractor activities to ensure work scope, specifications, and company policies are followed.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to promote cooperation, responsiveness, and future business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with engineers, inspectors, and owner representatives to resolve operational and maintenance challenges.
  • Lead regular safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture throughout the project site.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, site requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor purchasing activities to ensure timely delivery of quality materials at competitive costs.
  • Conduct routine planning and progress meetings with project supervision teams.
  • Determine equipment requirements and ensure proper maintenance and utilization of company assets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associate Degree in a related field; equivalent industry experience may be substituted for education.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supervising maintenance activities in a heavy industrial, petrochemical, refining, chemical processing, LNG, power generation, or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the maintenance and repair of:
    • Pipe fabrication systems
    • Furnaces
    • Heat exchangers
    • Filters
    • Reactors
    • Extruders
    • Compressors
    • Boilers
  • Thorough understanding of industrial mechanical maintenance practices and craft disciplines.
  • Proven leadership abilities with experience directing multi-craft workforces.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer drug screen, background check, and Motor Vehicle Report review.
  • Ability to travel to regional offices and industrial project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience in petrochemical, refining, or chemical manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience managing large maintenance contracts or turnaround activities.
  • Knowledge of project controls, budgeting, scheduling, risk assessment, change management, and cost control.
  • Experience with Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, or similar project management software.
  • Demonstrated success leading proposal development and project planning efforts.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and developing maintenance supervisors and craft personnel.
  • OSHA 30, Safety Essentials, or other industrial safety certifications.

Physical Demands

Employees are required to communicate in person, by telephone, email, video conferencing, and software applications. This position is based primarily at an operating industrial facility and requires mobility throughout the site, including elevated work areas.

  • Employees will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting. 
  • Will talk and hear to communicate. 
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls and tools. 
  • May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs. 
  • Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements. 
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.

Work Environment

This position operates within office, warehouse, maintenance shop, and active industrial process environments. Employees will be exposed to moderate to high noise levels and will routinely work around operating equipment, vehicles, tools, machinery, and industrial processes.
