Director of Adult Day Services

Summary:
The Director of Adult Day Services is responsible for leading and overseeing all instructional and operational aspects of Sherwood’s day habilitation and supported employment program for ages 18+ in conformance with state and federal objectives and law. Under the guidance of the CPO, this Director will work to establish quality assurances and parameters for all adult services including planning, designing and implementing all phases of services provided by the Day Habilitation and Employment staff; serve as a resource to parents/guardians, community stakeholders and governing agencies; and maintain adequate staff to ensure objectives of the program and services are achieved within budget and in accordance with Sherwood’s strategic plan.
The Director of Adult Day Services will work in cooperation with the leadership team (Directors, Managers, Supervisors, Therapists and BCBAs) to provide evidence-based, ethical services in line with Sherwood’s philosophy of care ensuring the highest quality of services are provided in a timely and consistent manner to all program participants.

Program Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and vision to ensure continuous development and improvement of the program by designing systems to measure continuous quality improvement and program outcomes.
- Establish partnerships and collaborate with community stakeholders, service agencies, and state/federal governing bodies for the purposes of planning, developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating day habilitation and employment services for consumer, volunteers and visitors within the Adult Services Program.
- Maintain an awareness of community providers and resources; develop partnerships with parents, organizations and other agencies in order to provide navigational support; and share resources regarding services.
- Evaluate and monitor the implementation of day habilitation and employment services to ensure compliance with regulations for all governing bodies (i.e. DMH, Medicaid, etc.) and in accordance with licensure and certification requirements within the scope of best practice standards in the field of autism treatment, developmental disabilities.
- Oversee the implementation of curriculum/programming appropriate for adults with autism and other related disabilities within the program and in conjunction with the Missouri Quality Outcomes.
- Oversee, direct and manage all community based partnership and volunteer activities for the program.
- Prepare, apply for and participate in the accreditation, licensing, and certification processes conducted as well as the Provider Review and Quality Assurance Review conducted by DMH, CARF and other governing bodies.
- Oversee and manage the referral, intake and enrollment process for new consumers including conducting initial screening, guardian interviews and placement of new consumers within the program.
- Coordinate contractual program services (ABA, speech, occupational and physical therapy), work with outside providers to facilitate consumer evaluations, conduct tours of visiting professionals and oversee the transition process for incoming consumers.
- Attend community events to recruit perspective job candidates, market Sherwood Center, support autism and developmental disability awareness and other community partnerships as agreed upon by the Chief Program Officer.
- Recruit, hire, and supervise program staff including delivery of feedback through both verbal and written evaluations of staff performance.
- Supervise staff for the purpose of delivering services which conform to established guidelines and ensure that program staff adheres to accepted Sherwood Center practices.
- Develop and maintain an Adult Services Program manual that outlines all program policies and procedures that are specific to the program and are not listed in the Sherwood Center Personnel Handbook or Sherwood Center Safety Manual in collaboration with the CPO.
- Prepare documentation and reports including data for the purpose of providing written support, conveying information and complying with Federal and State regulations for other agencies as needed.
- Act as a liaison to parents/guardians between Sherwood, funding sources, DMH, Mo and KS VR and other professionals and field questions from families, professionals, and visitors concerning the program, service providers, autism and Sherwood policies.
- Demonstrate leadership characteristics by creating a strong rapport with supervisees, community partners and professionals while creating an environment that is positive and respects confidentiality with regard to students, staff and agency matters.
- Respect confidentiality with regard to individuals, staff and agency matters as per HIPAA guidelines.
Fiscal Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the CPO to develop the annual program budget to propose to the CEO.
- Oversee and manage the program budget to ensure that program revenue and expenses follow the BOD approved budgetary guidelines.
- Oversee and manage grant tracking and documentation of spending specific to the program.
- Oversee and manage all service authorizations across all funding sources, usage and tracking to ensure accuracy and timeliness with billing.
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Provide program data and other relative information to other departments as needed to meet organizational needs.
- Deliver reports, information and materials to appropriate staff and other professionals in a timely manner.
- Attend all Town Halls, BOD meetings and all-staff meetings as directed by the CPO.
- Participate in organizational committees as assigned by the CPO.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for directly leading and supervising all ADS team members.
Communication Skills:
- Written & Verbal: Ability to write clear reports, draft routine correspondence, and speak effectively to both internal teams and community partners.
- Interpretation: Skilled at reading and interpreting technical documents, including safety rules, operating manuals, and standard procedures.
Problem Solving & Critical Thinking
- Analytical Thinking: Able to handle standardized problems involving multiple variables and carry out instructions delivered in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Basic Math: Comfortable working with general calculations, fractions, and decimals as they relate to daily operational needs.
Technical Skills
- Core Software: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Industry Tools: Quick to learn and navigate industry-specific systems, web-based applications, and databases.
Work Environment:
- Primarily indoor center-based environment with some office interruptions
- Direct access to the adult population serviced
- Fast-paced, busy environment with challenging behavior intermittent within the environment
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to exert, lift, carry, push/pull up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to demonstrate good balance, object handling, object fingering, feeling, simple hand grasping, firm hand grasping and occasional running or jogging.
- This position requires extended periods of walking and standing with some periods of sitting, which is dependent up the needs and activities of the individuals supported. It may require light to heavy lifting and occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, and/or climbing stairs.
Travel Required:
- Minimal day travel required primarily in the KC Metro area.
- No overnight travel required.

Requirements
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Services, Social Work or related discipline
- 7+ years’ experience working with individuals with Autism or related developmental disabilities
- 5+ years’ experience Supervisory experience
- Experience working with an aging population
- Experience with the Individual Support Plan (ISP) process and implementation procedures
- Experience with Medicaid documentation and billing
- Training in Positive Behavior Supports, Gentle Teaching, Missouri Quality Outcomes and TOOLS
- Strong computer and technology skills
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Psychology, Human Services, Social Work or related discipline
- Certification in FA/CPR, Blood borne Pathogens, Abuse/Neglect, MANDT, Level 1 Medication Administration, Class E Driver’s License
- Experience with Therap and Paylocity software
- Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis
