Roe Quality Control Technician

Description

Coastal Alaska Premier Seafoods, a subsidiary of Coastal Villages Region Fund, is currently seeking applications for a Roe Quality Control (QC) Technician to work aboard the F/T Northern Hawk. The primary job responsibilities of the Roe QC Technician include, but are not limited to, working on-board our fishing vessel operating off the western coasts of Washington and Alaska. The Roe QC Technician is responsible to ensure that all roe products produced aboard his/her vessel are in compliance with all quality criteria outlined in CAPS Product Specifications. The QC Technician will measure, evaluate, and record quality criteria as defined in CAPS Product Specifications. In addition to ensuring product quality conformance, the Roe QC Technician has the responsibility to ensure compliance of Factory cleanliness, sanitation, and personnel practices in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices. All information will be reported to Factory Manager, and Quality Control Manager, as requested. 

Specific Duties Include:

• Conducts regular basket checks; inspects and grades all fillet and mince product, in accordance with CAPS Product Specifications. 
• Inspects frozen product, and records criteria such as temperature, product condition, weight, packaging condition, and        labeling as per CAPS Product Specifications. 
• Instructs and motivates the Processing team under his/her supervision. Reports any problems with personnel to Factory Manager or Foremen for disciplinary action as needed. 
• Works with Baader Technicians and Foremen to ensure that roe extractor/fillet machine adjustments, and cleanings, are conducted as needed. 
• Maintains vessel HACCP Plan and Sanitation Plan as per State and Federal Regulatory Requirements.
• Ensures factory conformance with Food Safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices. 
• Conducts, and maintains, records for chlorine testing of Marine and Freshwater. 
• Prepares and submits product samples as requested by Factory Manager or Quality Control Manager at the conclusion of each        trip.
• Completes tallying duties at off-load to ensure accurate accounting of discharged product.
• Attend company sponsored training and meetings as directed.
• Strictly enforce and uphold all company policies and support company philosophy.
• Other duties as assigned

- This position reports directly to the Factory Foreman

- Seasonal Crew Contract: Status: Non Exempt – Seasonal

- This is a safety sensitive position, and impairment by any amount of drugs or alcohol may result in undue harm to self or others.

Selected applicants will be required to successfully pass a post-offer background, drug test and reference check. Applicants must be willing and able to be away from home for extended periods of time, and must be willing to live and work in a cramped environment, and work as a team member at all times. In addition, good communication skills, self motivation, and a positive attitude are important to ensure a high quality product and the safety of all crew members.

Upon receiving a conditional offer, selected crewmembers may be required to have physical examinations. The results of those tests may require a licensed healthcare provider and selected crewmember to determine whether reasonable accommodations can be structured to allow for safe performance of the job described above while in a remote and hazardous location. 

Requirements

Knowledge & Skill Requirements

• Must demonstrate a minimum of 2 years factory trawl experience.
• HACCP certification is preferred.
• Must possess a thorough working knowledge of factory trawl operations, and at-sea roe production. 
• Must possess the ability to instruct and motivate personnel, including interpersonal skills necessary to foster cooperation.
• Experience with food handling desired. 
• Ability to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be punctual, organized, and able to work under stressful conditions. 

Physical Requirements

• Ability to pass pre-employment and unannounced random drug tests.
• Must be capable of boarding and exiting a vessel without physical assistance by climbing up and down a gangplank or using a Jacob’s ladder.
• Must climb or descend one or more set of steep stairs, or vertical ladders inside and outside the vessel in all weather conditions as extreme as 30 degrees below zero.
• Ability to repetitively lift boxes up to 55 pounds in weight for long periods of time.

Work Environment

• 12 hours or more per day for the duration of the trip, including loading and unloading.
• Ability to work at sea for extended periods of time.
